My mate is due to leave in 2014 following 9 years, If he does not get signed on to his 12, what are the chances of him being able to rejoin, as his current trade (A Tech M), he will be 28, has consistently had excellent SJARS and has never got below the light blue level of the RAFFT

Thanks

If I were him, I'd tell the RAF to feck off. Great SJARS, decent fitness, good techie yet not promoted or signed on because of cutbacks?

He would do well to get quals/courses under his belt, civvie street has a lot to offer!

Thanks for the advice, however, he is desperate to stay in, he is just panicking a little about all of the post-SDSR cutbacks and how much it would affect him.
Is it true you can only sign on for 12 years once you have completed 7of your first 9?

Can't be 8 and a half surely? 6 months timeframe where you might be out of q job?

My 9 yr point is also 2014 and I am unable to sign on at the minute, like OPs mate I have good SJARs, good fitness and have come off the board for my trade. The promotion quotas have just been cut though and my application for further service has been declined so am preparing for the worst.

You can sign on at your 7.5 yr point, I did a good few years back. Ask you admin, they SHOULD know. However with the SDSR I believe there are now further service boards held at different times of year or every few months?

Keep your eye on the manning website, that has and does have information about further service.

everyone who signs on now gets boarded like promotion, so if your mate is as good as you say he should have no problems. The only problem i can forsee is if your trade is over manned like the armament trade as none of us are getting signed on

in the armament trade there is a lot of people forced out. loads of people have had letters actually stating they are surplus to requirements and they are not required anymore

The mate in question is sat on my couch right now, and according to him, the A Tech M traded is quite highly over-manned.

So as this is set to continue until 2015, anyone with an exit date (9yr point) around 2013-2015 may have trouble signing on?

This seems to be the general concensus

So would you all agree that his best bet would be to rejoin, should he get kicked out?

4.5 years to sign to 12... 9 to sign to 15 if that even still exists.

I'm in the same situation.

Joined in 2003, told to wait till the 7.5 year point to apply for extension to 12.

Applied and got a letter back basically saying "not now, try again later".

well all I can say is B*!!*£Ks to it... I have very desirable qualifications and experience on a particular type of equipment, and a tasty job lined in sunny, tax free places earning 5 times what the Royal Air Farce is paying for exactly the same job (and I'm not the only one).......

PVR went in last week, last working day can be worked out on one hand. I honestly hope that everyone else in the RAF gets a chance like mine........

The government have made their choices, let them deal with the consequences....
