I think they should renumber the tade groups to reflect current pay and promotion prospects. So which is the higher trade group? Remember when TGs were assigned aircraft techies were deemed to be the most valuable members of the RAF, hence TG1 and 2.
a. You join as a techie you need qualifications, an extensive trade training package, followed by lots of further training courses on specialist equipment types, and the possibility of making flt Sgt after about 24 yrs service.
b. You join with few or no qualifications, do no further training, make Flt Sgt after about 17yrs service and are 63,000 pounds better off than the techie over your career.
i think you can see why Aircraft technical trades should now accept their new found standing in the eyes of our leaders and move down the TG ladder to about TG 99.
