Always been told that you have until 1600hrs on your first day to report to your place of work on posting.

Urban myth or written down somewhere?

Urban Myth as far as i'm aware! Always been a case of a "what time do you want me in at?/Who am i meeting and where?" phonecall the friday before

That used to be the case in days of old, to allow travelling time and report for duty NLT 1600. However, most people normally arrive on the Sun to settle in before pitching up to PSF for long walk around the station getting pointless signatures.

getting pointless signatures.
Never has a truer word been spoken! Arrived at Leuchars in Jan 2013, went to all the sections to get my chit stamped/signed/frowned at. Pinged short notice for a Falklands det at the end of October...half the sections never even knew i arrived! Useless!

As part of the GSK package taught at RTS, you're briefed to report to PSF/ Unit HR by 1600 on the day of your posting in date.

However, i always briefed them to contact their new Section prior and make sure you knew where and when to arrive...

Pitched up today for my new assignment 0730hrs sharp, shirt / tie etc. There should have been 1 other but then I did hear that 'Up until 1600' line mentioned. No idea what happened there though as he didn't show up at 1600 either....

I am a bit surprised that in this day of DII and JSP that such things are still deemed to be necessary.
I left over 20 years ago, I would have thought that some progress would have been made.
Back on track, I seem to remember that on posting to Germany and back to UK I was given a last time of arrival date, LTA, and I merely had to be there by then, no particular time notified.

Concur with MattBH. All my posting paperwork pre-JPA stated to report to PSF by 1600 on your posting in date. I, like most, were at PSF at start of play.

Did you have to wait for everyone else to turn up at 0800, then get a brew, have a chat with mates about weekend antics, then finally start work at 0830?

That's how it rolls at a secret base in North Yorkshire.

Pre-JPA.

Nowadays, people get up to 5 days Relocation Leave, so its not unreasonable to expect them to relocate during that period and show up for work on day one in the morning.

I found that a courtesy call to the section where you were posted was always the best way to go. At least they then get confirmation that you know you have to be there and you can get some gen on the arrivals process etc...

In some cases this may be the first time they have heard you are coming...

It's even worse when you pitch up at PSF and no-one there knows either... Cue hours on end waiting while the headless chickens run around trying to find out.

this digital age you think every man and his dog would know.
Except PSF who close for 'staff training' when JPA is down, or even when its F/S. Considering they are the experts they're pretty retarded* when it comes to the move & track side of things. *PSF at Leuchars and Valley, Cottesmore PSF did at least make an effort to chase up your assignment details whilst they let you arrive/clear at other sections.

Always led to believe that internal UK posts were 1600 due to travel time and post overseas was 0800 sharp due to disembarkation leave

I arrived at a large training base in Bu.... a sod it Halton.
07:45 stood talking to an old mate about the joys of recently departed Akrotiri.
He pointed out the Flight Sgt on his way in and introductions were made.
Walked in about 08:05 to a shout of oi you get here.
Next twenty minutes or so were filled with a bolloking for being late for work
Decided then and then he was a grade a ****** and war had just been declared.

Wasn't wrong though and to quote Col Kurt Steiner I can always spot a thourgh going ******* when I meet one.
