Unless there is a real reason to do this such as a security issue, do not do this. You could end up with a router that has been slightly crippled due to a crap firmware release and having to wait 8 months for them to fix it.

as an aside Statto's advice is sound for doing it but backup your router config first.
 
Also after backing up your router config to your pc, write down your Username and password.
Flashing your firmware will erase all your settings.
