Router Firmware

Following on from another thread...how do I go about updating my router firmware? It's a cable and wireless job...

If like mine, download the latest firmware from the manufacturers website then use your routers admin page (usually http://192.168.xx or something like that) and install from there.

Unless there is a real reason to do this such as a security issue, do not do this. You could end up with a router that has been slightly crippled due to a crap firmware release and having to wait 8 months for them to fix it.

as an aside Statto's advice is sound for doing it but backup your router config first.

Also after backing up your router config to your pc, write down your Username and password.
Flashing your firmware will erase all your settings.
