Does anybody know the rules etc regarding this.

I have heard of a few people being granted it in the past, it actually seems more popular or obtainable in the other services.

My facts are I am a SNCO in for LOS 30, presently overseas and in a trade that hasn't been affected by redundancies etc.

I am sitting on the fence (read having a mid life crisis) and I am totally unsure of what my next move is.

Taking a sabattical was suggested to me, I know it can be quite common in some sectors in civvy st.

The only fact I know is that you are not allowed to earn any income if a sabattical is granted.

I realise that this may come over as having my cake & eating it, especially in light of other trades fighting to perhaps keep their careers. But I work on the theory of if you dont ask, you dont get and keep your options open.

Thanks in advance for any genuine replies.

You can apply for a career break which, from memory, is up to 3 years max. Regs are contained in JSP 760 - again from memory. Sorry not a little more specific but it is early and I'm not in work until tomorrow!

Humble Scribe,

I certainly would be appreciative if you could find out anything further when you are back in the office and you get a spare minute.

Many thanks.
