Hi there, i'm still waiting for my SJAR to be completed even though it was meant to be sorted by the end of May (according to the SJAR Clark).
The problem is my 3rd RO has still not done anything with my assesment even though they have had it for months. I have spoken to my immediate managemen, my cheif, flight and boss etc..... They have all informed me its getting sorted.

Now i'm being told different things by different people as to what would happen if it's not sorted soon. People have said it won't go the board, it will be classified as a "U" and would have a negative impct on my future prospects.
So does anyone know exactly what would be the result?

I am extremely disgruntled and bemused as to what is going on or indeed what i can do about it. I pulled my puddings out to get a good assesment. I honestly feel like i'm being punished for getting a decent SJAR.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Cheers

This happened to me one time. Due to the small section and how top heavy it was my 1st RO was a Flt Lt, 2nd Sqn Ldr. The first was late getting mine done but nothing too bad, the second just didn't bother, mainly because he was going OOA. This happened to all the JNCO's in the section. Some would have prbably been there or there abouts when the boards sat too. In the end a service complaint went in by one of the other lads. The Sqn Ldr got pulled from his OOA, tore apart by our Wing Co and then had to answer to some other high ranker in PSF I think it was. We were shuffled into a room and apologised to by the Wing Co on behalf, of not only himself ,but the RAF. Safe to say he was not a happy camper.
Not sure where said Sqn Ldr is now but I am pretty certain he won't be going any higher on the old promotion ladder. He was a decent bloke too.

Still some time to go as I don't think the SAC - Cpl boards start to sit until Sep time but a gentle reminder through the CoC is in order

Clearly he wasn't a decent bloke given the fact that he failed to do the single most important thing that someone in command has a duty to do. Sqn Ldr can't be bothered to look after his lads' career? Sounds like a top bloke.

Well having worked with him I thought he was a good boss, bar chinning off the SJAR, but that may just be me, I don't hold a grudge. Not for long anyway.

The board sits in Nov for ATM's, SAC-CPL, so there is still time, it is however late.

If it makes you feel any better, I have known people (well one person anyhow) whose assessments have missed the board and after a little complaining have had their own board and were slotted into the A grades.

Some believe having your own board is almost guaranteed promotion, but I couldn't comment on the accuracy of that!

Have you tried speaking to your 3rd RO about it?

Even if you do get to be a U grade you can put a Service Complaint in and the board will be re convened again, along with your 1/2RO getting a slap.

Cheers for the comments, there are numerous issues that have crept into my assesment process. For instance, my 1st RO got posted as he finished his bit, my 2nd RO has just PVR'd and to be frank isnt really that bothered about much to do with the RAF.
In their defence however they all got there bits done on time and the process whilst in their control went smoothly.

As for contacting my 3rd RO, i have contacted him but got put through to his PA (He's a wing commander). She seemed a bit embarassed about it all and said he is aware and she has reminded him to sort it.

I know i'm only a smally but i want the best out my career. I always try my best, have a good attitude towards work and the RAF (despite whats going on).
I sometimes sit and think i should just be a moaning bum that sits about all day getting other peoples moral down, they seem to have no issues with their assesments

I had similar a couple of years back regarding a Wing Co 3rd RO. He sat on the SJAR for months but it did get finished in plenty of time for the board. For now I'd stay in touch with the PA and also find out from your Apollo Clerk when the SJAR has to be done by to hit the board. When you get within about a month then I'd consider escalating. If he hasn't written your bit yet and you wind him up human nature says it isn't going to be as good. You could also involve your Apollo Clerk or the SJAR Clerk as they have better processes and channels to chase him up than you do.

Whilst not excusing the lateness of your SJAR, you shouldnt worry too much (at the moment). The board is not due to sit for many months yet and the only way you would be a U grade is if it is not finalised by the time the pre boarding process is complete. You would not be disadvantaged if it turned up in the week before they produce the U grade list and as long as its there before then you will be fine. The Wg Cdr will not want to be in the spotlight for not completing an SJAR in time and I am sure you will find it completed soon. You could speak to your Sqn Ldr if possible and ask him to raise the issue on your behalf - you may even find that the Sqn Ldr is (or already has) drafted some words for the Wg Cdr so will already be in the picture as to whats going on with it.
