What AV are you using? Norton AV has been known to cause this problem.

Had any updates or new software installed (been surfing 'dodgy' sites ;) ?
Run your antivirus scanner and do a disk scan.

Go back to a checkpoint in the past?

Windows firewall turned on? Make sure that the SSL port (port 443) is not blocked.

The router settings should be ok as the desktop works ..... reboot it anyway.

From google:

From Command Prompt, run following command:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
Hit Enter.

Repeat same regsvr32 command for following files:
• wuaueng.dll
• wucltui.dll
• wups.dll
• wuweb.dll
• atl.dll
• softpub.dll
• wintrust.dll
• initpki.dll
• mssip32.dll

That should do for a start !

I had this about 6 months ago..Could enter http sites but could not enter https sites. tried everything to cure it. Eventually got onto my ISP help line who did tests on my phone line and found it wasn't my computer, it was external to the house. After further checks I found out that the Server at the local exchange had a u/s piece of kit that affected access to https sites. My ISP provider sorted it in a couple of days
