Hello All,
I will be leaving later this year. I have recently been re-vetted for 10 years. Now the career im looking to go into when I leave security clearance can be beneficial, so will my clearance be valid when I leave or does it cease once I leave.
Cheers for any help

Mark

Just had an interview for renewal of my vetting, and I asked the guy who did it if it was valid in civvi street and as far as he was aware it was.

Might be worth checking with York though

Having done 3 in one 12 month period myself, I would say check with your prospective employer first.

1st. It was due renewal.
2nd. Leaving DARA. (Best move I ever made)
3rd. Arriving here as a connie scum ! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

If the job you are going into does not require SC clearance then it will last for one year after service, however if the new job does require SC clearance then they will apply to have it transfered over to that company and it will then carry on for however long it had left to run.

Transfering it over is a cheaper and quicker option for companys than having a new one carried out.

I'm in the same position mate, it is a serious asset. My profile on my CV starts: Security cleared engineer....
What I did was get a letter from RAFP Flt registry, from the lady who does all the vetting with all the details on headed paper. There are 2 types as I understand it: SC & DV. Unless you've been specially interviewed, you probably have SC, and its normally valid for 10 years from when it was last renewed.
Then it's just a question of transferring it to a new employer rather than them starting the process from scratch- lengthy and costly for them.

I,m leaving soon and have a job with the Wiltshire Police. I have to be security cleared and they have told me that my present clearence does not count. I think it's like others have said, it's different with the individual employer.

There are different vetting agencies for the various government departments. Unfortunately they do not recognise each others as equivalent although they can be transferred easier than starting from scratch.

Same with Met Police as my clearance was not transferrable.

A follow up question to this thread that I thought somebody ouit there might just know the answer.

I have received my security clearence and one difference from last time was in the letter advising me of the level it also made it clear that should I move out of home and in with some one else they will require vetting.

Now given that this is most likely to happen if and when I decide to settle down at what point would it be adviseable to notify partner or house mate that this needs doing?

If this has been covered previously then please feel free to point me in the direction of the post.

Thanks

In advance

I wouldn't have thought they would require vetting, more like yours would be reviewed. You are required to inform your vetting officer of any major changes in your life.

This is correct, when I settled down with my missus I phoned my DV officer and told him, he came out for a quick chat about her (family and the such) and was happy to let my clearance continue until it came up for renewal.

If you are just living with someone and you are only SC, then they will not need to be "cleared". If you get married, you need to complete another security questionaire (its a yellow doc, can't remember the form number). If you are DV'd, then let your vetting clerk know, and DVA will send a suit to chat to them.

For the record, your security clearance lapses 1 year from the day you leave the mob (or sooner if you have less time remaining on your current clearance). The only exception being that your clearance is transferred by DVA to another list X company or agency. Another little note is that in the mob, we are all minimum of SC cleared, coppers only get a basic check, which is why the SC does not count (becuase it is different letters and is much more important..?)

If in doubt, phone DVA and they will tell you over the phone what your clearance is and when it expires.

Hope this helped.

You fill out another form, no interview is rqd unless they don't like an answer on the form, been with my wife a total of 6 years and had two DV chats in that time including a full review, she's not been interviewed yet.

Just tell the truth on any forms and in any interviews. If you get caught out, they use your scrotum as a noose. Bear in mind they know the answers to the questions they ask - it is a question of your trustworthiness etc.

Hope this helps.
