Just received an appointment for a consultation in January at Charing Cross hospital. Looks like it's just an hour appointment but travelling up from Cornwall and back on one day is out of the question for me.

The ideal would be to get my med centre looking at hotels but being the anally retentive Navy they need proof of a lack of other accommodation first. Does anyone know of any units nearby that could offer me a room for the night?

Assuming you are non-comm there is Northwood and Northolt of which will have zero accomodation...many at Northwood I believe are now living at Northolt for some reason or other. Central London people at Mod tend to live in private rentals so no messes of any variety available...quick call to the Northwood accomodation cell should sort you out with an F95.

Should be plenty of travelodge type places between Fulham and Hammersmith though!

There is a central number to call for all accommodation in London, I believe they will issue a NAC if none available. Someone might have the contact details

Failing that you could try the Victory Services Club.If you're currently serving you & your spouse can join for free, rooms start at £49 for a single inc brekkie. It's just over 2 miles from Charing Cross & the's a tube station nearby.

Good luck.

Nice one, cheers guys. Failing finding this London accom number, I'll get on the phone to Northwood.

The number is written on the hotel booking form as the one you must phone before getting the 'no service accommodation' cert.

I can get it for you if you don't have the form?

Be aware mind, I needed accommodation for Hammersmith last weekend, asked for a specific hotel next to Northolt as it is 50 quid a night with free parking, right next to a tube station.

I got given a different hotel in Hounslow as it is 'closer' and therefore meets my requirements better.

Parking was an extra tenner a day and the nearest tube line was shut down for the weekend with a very very slow bus service as replacement. DO NOT allow them to do your research for you as to the best place to stay.

Whilst not exactly nice, the Union Jack Club is about ten minutes walk away, (Waterloo, just off of the map above!).

The UJ Club is fine - their en-suite rooms would put some three star hotels to shame - their prices are very good for Central London.

Earlier in the year I had an appointment at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (from Lossie), I was put up there in the on site Hotel (Read barrack block for on-call doctors and visiting patients relatives). There might be one of those at the hospital you are staying at, the one I stayed at was £20 a night. Worth having a look at at least.

Well, I received word from the travel cell today that I've been booked into the Bloomsbury Park hotel near St. Pancras. £120 a night apparently so I hope it's a decent one! Anyone on here stayed there?

Hope you have the NAC.
I know of a few mates on courses that ended up at horseguards or wellington barracks (PS might even have been somewhere else but was very poor wherever it was)

If your appointment is in Charing Cross hospital, then there is little point in staying up by St Pancras... its in Hammersmith and thats a good hour commute at least on the tube. I would ask them to put you around Hammersmith, Kensington way.

Probably a bit late now as it's next week and it's all been booked in for me. Plus I don't fancy the bother of speaking to my travel cell to amend it, I mean, have you ever had to deal with Navy admin? :PDT_Xtremez_42:
I'll just have to look forward to the trip around London finding it...... Mind you, that's if the aforementioned fish heads actually sort my rail warrant out in time......

Your hotel can be changed very quickly, and as long as you've got your CHBS booking ref there's no reason why you can't ring CHBS yourself. And there's no such thing as a rail warrant these days - your travel bods make the booking on-line and get an immediate booking ref for you to collect your tickets at the.station. A trip like this can be sorted in 10 mins so don't let them tell you it's difficult or time consuming.

Call HRG yourself to change the location of the hotel, you only need the booking code. They wont book the UJC or VSC or Premier Inn/Travellodge but you can book this yourself and they will amend the details you have so that you can reclaim.

A word of warning though; there is a London Central Accommodation Cell. You must get a Form 8 from them or you will not be able to reclaim anything, when your clam is audited in 18 months time by the NAO they'll insist on it. I'm not at work ATM or I'd give you the number.

Hope you have the NAC.

Had a similar experience while doing a course at mod main building. Got put up in Woolwich Royal Artillery Barracks... It was an hours journey each way! Quite possibly the worst transit accom ever, and bizzarrely at the time they were accommodating officers and other ranks in the same crummy block... and guess who made the most noise/mess?
