You could in 2009 nowadays, can't say. All I had to do was show my paperwork for the trip at the kiosk.

Yes - so long as you have your MT paperwork with you. There's a DIN or something knocking around, but I don't have time to look for it at the moment..... wrestling with MODNet...

Yes you can. You're supposed to call them first but ppl say you can just turn up as well. Personally, I'd avoid that stretch and use the M50/A449

They were probably under French ownership when I used it a couple of years ago (in my own car). Rather irritating that the sign which said "cash only" was after the last junction before there was no choice to use the bridge. I started having a go at the bloke in the pay-booth, and proffered up my wallet to illustrate the lack of cash.

He said "ah you've got euros, we take them." then...
