So, not content with screwing about with the nation's finances, the government now wants to poke its piggy snouts into those of football clubs..

Share the wealth"

One of the most eye catching statements is:

“The Government has a duty to represent the views of football supporters across the country and we believe on these issues we are speaking with the grain of football opinion,”

NO! The government has a duty to run the country, not to try and curry favour with minority groups in the sports and entertainment industry by jumping on a popularist bandwagon.

The 'bigger' clubs have got where they are today through a process of building and investment in their own facilities and infrastructure. OK Chelsea are slightly different, but they were getting to where they are today before Abramovich came along. Success earns prize money which enables more investment, attracts more fans which in turn generates more money. They can therefore afford to employ the best coaches, managers and of course players and I can see no reason why any of them should have a duty or even moral responsiblity, to simply hand over monies to other clubs that they have earned through a long and drawn out process of their own.

Success does indeed earn prize money but it's all relative, a good run in the Johnsons Paint trophy doesn't exactly fund team rebuilding or buying a new creative midfield dynamo. I agree there is no reason why bigger clubs should walk round donating money to worthy causes resting gently in League 2, but there has to be a way of leveling out the field a tad. A certain Mr Bosman has more to answer for than he realises. The current big 4 sell more shirts get more prize money and have more time on telly, and then from the cash generated by that revenue stream hire the better players fact of life, live with it. But from the outside it's a very hard group to gate crash when you have fewer resources than the current occupants. I don't have the answer but Gordo and his gang aren't going to be that answer.

There is of course another facet to this i.e. sometimes money cannot buy you what you want. The better players have to want to go to certain clubs, and for the real stars of the game this means those that will guarantee them football at the highest level and that of course means the Champions League. There are plenty of examples of clubs who have tried to sign better players but they just won't go because of the clubs status.
Its a viscious circle and unfortunately your (the royal your) club needed to be on the money express elevator before someone pressed the button for the top floor!
