I'm needing a question answered from mainly the ex11 lads but also the ex3 lads out there. I'm currently working in the Commcen at Rheindahlen and i'm a shift supervisor with 2 daisy days civvies working with me when i'm on days and working on my own on nights. There is also a LCpl TA lassie working with me but she is due to finish before Christmas as her engagement is finished. I have asked the question about getting my Acting Cpl while we are still a 24/7 commcen and I have been told no as I do not need it. I have questioned this because as the supervisor I am in charge of running the shift. I have to do the twice daily crypto checks, liase with the other agencies for our NATO circuits, keep the civvies in check and also responsible for the engineering standards i.e sending sitreps and QOS as needed. Now I know from previous experience on TCW that I can draft initial QOS, updates and RTNO's however I had to get an NCO to sign it. If I am expected to be responsible for all this as a shift supervisor do the goaters think I have a case to apply to my boss for my acting Cpl or as an SAC am I allowed to carry out these tasks as per the AP600??

You have answered your own question, you are on nights by yourself as an SAC. So they deem you responsible enough as an SAC. If you feel this warrents a job evaluation then point this out, but be warned they could upgrade the post and you may have lost SAC's an overseas tour. HAve a long hard think before you go any further.

If there is no post to fill then I struggle to see how any acting rank or substitution pay could be awarded.

If there is a LCpl on during the day, are you also her supervisor? If so, then you should get acting up.

TG11 SAC's always worked nightshift on their own in the Commcen at Wildenrath.

Isn't that a bit iffy, working on your own with all the equipment using lethal voltages?

That was funny.

I'm going to be the last blue suit serving in the commcen anyway. I've been told by my desk and line manager that once I go there will be no more service personnel in the commcen. He has also said that if I get promoted mid tour they will be making a case to keep me until the commcen closes. My line manager was going on about how UK Messaging won't pay the extra for a Cpl, but surely it doesn't cost them extra as my wages would be paid for my HMG as normal??

What T93 said.

At a top secret signals unit near Doncaster in the 1980's, the operators were preparing for AOC's. In order for then to clean behind the teleprinters, we had to go around and disconnect them all because that was a "techie" job.

In those days, most TG11 couldn't wire a 3 pin plug. Of course, now that they are all part of TG4 they are proper techies:PDT_Xtremez_30::PDT_Xtremez_30::PDT_Xtremez_30:.
