Well it happened. I got my part 1 DWR notice in August for Kandahar with a due date of Aug 08. Being a cynic I thought that I would go a bit early, like on my reserve date. HOWEVER, three weeks ago I got the signal through saying I was now going in Dec 07! Apparently the two people before me dropped out within 30 minutes of each other! Does that sound a bit like a conspiracy or what! Now I'm sure they both have genuine reasons, but bloody hell! Good job I had nothing planned!

Has anyone else had this happen? Especially over Christmas.......

I only had 2 weeks notice for my recent holiday in the Falkland Islands.
Luckily I am awesome (ask Stax) and my admin was squared away wire tight & I was ready for deployed drinking duties immediately.

Apparently the oxygen thief before me suddenly discovered he had liver cancer on the Monday before he flew. You know how that comes on over a weekend don't you?
Luckily, after I had arrived in theatre he discovered it was a false call after all. Whew, I feel so glad for him.::/:

I know who you are & where you are CNUT. Sweet dreams!

My last stint Daaarn Saaarf a few years ago, started off LTA June, 2 weeks later LTA Feb, a week later LTA Jan, a few days later LTA Sep, and it was August FFS.
Can't beat a BBQ in Shady's on Xmas day though!

Back in 2000 (apr/june IIRC) got posted to Waddo and withing days of arriving had a DWR notice...for about 18 months time......was told i would not go before that as that time was needed to learn new job.....about 3 weeks later another notice, brought forward to Nov that year, all inbetween had dropped out..........Xmas in AAS and about a week after i got there everyone except me went down with food poisoning !! I had a quiet time !!

Just make the best of it...I made a countdown clock out of old water bottle tops....

Crack on..............:PDT_Xtremez_09:

In Febuary, my boss told me of a DWR to "the dead" in Oct 08 (I thought he was taking the mick and so did all the sections at Conz I had to prep from.

Posted to BAE norfolk and come back from summer hols. DWR brought forward by 4 months to Jun 08 (Res in Feb). Good I will book PET. In the middle of an MSAT course, my wobbly phones to say it has been brought forward.... By 8 months. I go one week after the end of my MSAT. PMA better get me off the course then. No way say they... Take me off the list and put me on another (to Iraq). I am on res now. PMA cannot tell me what job I'm doing (one word from the drafter, another from Ops). A signal saying one date and somebody saying another.

**** up in a brewery, gentlemen...:PDT_Xtremez_35:

Am sure we've all been shafted before but it does go deep when it happens over the festive period, was in Germany October 1999 and get a call from the boss to tell me I’m due to go down south in the July of 2000 with a reserve of March, so I bet him a couple of bottles of Wobbly that I would probably be going in November as it was Xmas & the Millennium and I'm just that lucky...

Fast forward a week and a day, Friday 1630 in the Stackers Bar and I walk in the boss hands me 2 bottles of Wobbly and says start packing as you're flying mid-Nov, got to admit if you're going to be told that you're missing Xmas and the Millennium, not to mention my 30th birthday then it has to be while drinking the bosses beer...

Have to admit Xmas Day BBq in Shadys made it a little better, shame about the New Years bash, knew I should've gone to Stanley...

Thursday before Spring Bank Holiday weekend, the whole station was stacking at the end of the day for an extra long weekend (thanks to the Staish) .

Called into the FS's office at 1030 to get the news that I had been brought forward on the DWR and needed to be in theatre on the Tuesday!!!

Cue the ensuing panic as I had NO kit, NO pre-deployment training and NO paperwork filled out, all because someone in Handbrake House had sat on the signal for the past 2 weeks::/:

Still made it on my LTA though.........God knows how!!

Initially due to go down south a few years ago in Sept.. Went on New Years day 8 months early. Cnuts!! New Years Day FFS!!!! 8 Months early!!!
You cant even class that as "war" dodging. Its a holiday FFS!

Hey Norm, nice to see you on the old goat again mate. Sorry to see you got stitched by one of the growing "Glass Back" brigade. I would send him a turd in a jiffy bag......******

Sorry to say that I have just been taken off a DWR picking up penguins

Was slated to go in feb 08 (was on reserve now) despite me telling PMA again and again that I was having surgery on my feet this month.

Now have been signed off for 6 weeks and downgraded for 6 months so some other bugger has been pinged.

Sorry to whoever it ****s over, I did try to tell the desk but neither they or my heirachy bothered to listen to me.

I take it 20hrs notice when on R1 doesnt count as a short notice dwr

(i know, hat, coat)

Two years ago went somewhere hot and sandy, just eight days notice I wasn't even in my reserve and it was over xmas just for good measure!!! nice one.

Hello Stackers,
i'm afraid i've hopped over from TG4 forum, it's the same in every trade, we are all being pulled forward like you, it seems the glass backs are out in force. ::P:

Thanks Wobbly. Good to be back.
Didn't make my fortune on 12DailyPro though. :PDT_Xtremez_42:
Had to sell one of the wife's kidneys instead.
Never mind, at least she can't drink as much these days. Saves me a fortune on a night out. Aha!

Just had two of our lads genuinely injure themselves just weeks before they are due to go, they both feel like tawts and I don't help by calling them war dodgers! Sympathy? Pah! you all know where to find it!

I have a solution which would definately help our DWR turnaround time. Send all the sick, lame, lazy's, glass backs or what ever you want to call them down the falklands for their tour. There is a perfectly good hospital close by so that if they require urgent hospital attention (doubtful!) they can go there. If their bad backs, dodgy knees, etc stops them from flying then stick em on a boat for a few weeks while they sail down there let them do their full 4 month or even do a 6 month tour down there then stick em on a boat home. I wonder just how many of our downgrades would stay that way then?

War Dodgers!

War Dodgers!

Came back from the stan last year and was telling war stories in the teabar about the inbound nastyness and 1 day later he had his paperwork in for a penguin tour. what kind of bloke is happy to send his lads in but will not walk the walk himself? to be fair though he is a grade A glass back pr*ck.

Just when I thought it couldn't possibly happen again,

got a phone call late Thursday afternoon telling me that I was leaving on Monday:PDT_Xtremez_32: :PDT_Xtremez_32:

Not such a big deal, except that the station were on a down-day on Friday so half the bods I needed to see weren't in!!
Never mind, I've got 20 mins on Monday before I leave so I can run around daft then::/:

I was only 18 months into a 36 month screened tour. Some @rse somewhere decided to lift the screening for fftr's at Manston and five days later I left home!

Never saw it coming. Why would I? I was on a screened tour ffs!
