Wonder if Penfold or others in the know can shed any light.
If a Med Cen is covered by a Civvy Dr's out of hours and one of those Dr's signs you off sick in Qtrs, does it hold any credance? Do you still have to get out of your sick bed when feeling like dog Sh** and honestly not well, and have to get the Mil Dr's to agree the sick chit?
Cheers

Just asked the guys here and from what they said, a sick chit is a sick chit regardless of which Doc raised it. It will stand for the period the Doc has given you. When it runs out and you have to go into work take it in with you (if you havent already) and then make sure that you give a copy to the Med Centre so they can update your records.

Sniffer, Not at my place it seems
Just been draged outa my bed to drive into work as ours wil not accept any other chit other than military chit. Not even allowed to call in work when living on camp to say ur ill... Even if on deaths door ours are saying that we have to go in even if been to A&E/ Brain surgeon/VD clinic Dr...

Many moons ago I came down with Rubella (not allowed to call it German Measles any more!) over a weekend. As per the standing orders I went to see the on-duty civvy GP who told me I had Rubella and that he wasn't allowed to sign me off.

The next morning - feeling pretty damned unwell - I got up, showered, shaved, put my uniform on and travelled to my unit . . . by bus because I didn't drive at the time. The SMO looked at me, read the letter the civvy GP had written and signed me off for a week. His only advice was to try not to come into contact with any pregnant women on the way home.

I really thought the RAF had grown up a bit since then. I guess not.

Do you live more than 5 miles from your unit?

QRs say:

1512. Medical Attendance for Personnel Living Out. Sponsor: DGMS(RAF)

Serving personnel not provided with accommodation at public expense and living out under their own arrangements must, if requiring medical attendance while at home, obtain such attendance from the nearest Service unit at which a Service MO is appointed for duty or a civilian medical practitioner is engaged for attendance on Service personnel. If the patient does not reside within a reasonable distance of the station, as defined by the CO under para 1503, clause (2) the nearest civilian doctor may be visited or called in as appropriate for treatment under NHS arrangements.

1513. Medical Attendance while on Leave. Sponsor: DGMS(RAF)

(1) In the United Kingdom.

(a) Serving personnel requiring medical attendance while on leave in the UK, whether from a station in the UK or abroad, if residing within 5 miles of a Service medical establishment or a unit at which a Service MO is posted for duty, are to report their sickness to that Service medical establishment or unit which will make the necessary arrangements for treatment. Personnel residing outside the five mile limit may visit or call in the nearest civilian doctor for treatment under NHS arrangements.

I always thought it was you had to go on camp if you lived with 2 miles of an MOD establishment. If you lived further away, see a civvy dr, inform your place of work and forward the sick chit. As soon as well enough to travel, go to your med center before returning to work.

Thats how i always understood it anyways....and even on release from hospital after an Op you go to the med ctr to get signed off sick again if required.

Crack on................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Mutty, my point is that is they farm out medical services at weekends and out of hours to a civvy firm then they really should give them auth to sign you off. It took all my strength to get to the civvy hospital at weekend as it was. T then again have to go into a work one seemed pointless.. Ah well never mind i hope the people in the waiting room didn;t catch it and have to get signed off too:PDT_Xtremez_15:
