Morning all.

Quick question about the mandatory fitness statement we should be making in SJAR's. The last time I did a load of SJAR's I had to make a statement (just said "he displays a positive attitude towards fitness"), however, I have since found out that this statement is not always enforced, down to local personalities and their view. Now I have no problem with making the statement, as shallow as it is, but what is wrong is that the rule is not being stringently enforced so all the guys I had were at disadvantage to others in that they had lost characters in their word count.

Of course the JSP says it's mandatory so by rights all SJAR's should have a comment, but that's not happening. So what's happening out in across the RAF in general? Is this rule being enforced or not?

This should be being picked up the TG17/civilian HR checkers and they should be rejecting any without that comment. It certainly happens at my unit.

I always wrap it up with another comment like-

"His passion for running not only allows him to pass his MSFTwith ease, he has also raised £200 for local charities doing a half marathon".
OR
"Due to the lack of a bone in his leg he has not been unable to carry out the MSFT but understands the importance of fitness in the Service and will strive to complete the test once fit"

The JSP states comment on 'attitude towards fitness' & subordinate development with regards to fitness if CPL and above as far as I remember. I say along the lines of 'displays a positive attitude to fitness by not only passing the RAFFT but.... and then commenting on anything fitness related that the person has done in the reporting year, like what's mentioned in the previous posts.

This shiney enforces it and until it is not in the JSP then I will continue to do so.

Wouldn't worry about the statement if your grammer is anything to go by....................

Slightly off topic but still within the SJAR theme, can someone clear up the suitability for instructor remarks on an SJAR please, ie although I know there is a drop down box, should teh RO actually make a comment on a Cpl and above? thanks

With regard to the fitness malarkey, a simple tick box yes/no for the RAFFT would be better as you're using up characters to state the obvious.

True but I am sure I have heard that it costs money plus the fact the army and navy have to agree.....joint = army = no chance then :PDT_Xtremez_32:

Don't get confused

Don't get confused

The requirement is to "comment on attitude to fitness"
not BLAH has passed his fitness test.

It could be BLAH turns up grudgingly once (twice) a year in some cut off jeans, a det T shirt and some worn silver shadows and blasts through his test.

Surely someone who organises a few sports afternoons or is a regular gym bunny deserves a little encouragement ? Irrespective of whether they pass a test or not?

I tick box doesn't help really? Unless you want one for CCS / dental fitness/ deploy-ability....

You are required to....

For an SAC (including acting Cpl) or below - Comment upon their attitude to personal fitness.
For a Cpl or above - Comment on their attiude to their own personal fitness AND their attitude to the personal fitness of their subordinates.

This comment is to go in the Performance section of the SJAR and you should back it up with examples if possible. For example - 'With an excellent attitude to personal fitness, he regularly attends PT sessions during lunchtimes' or for a Cpl etc... maybe something like 'While maintaining a high standard of personal fitness, Cpl Vee2 also ensures his subordinates have a positive attitude to their own fitness by regularly checking PT stats'... or something like that, I'm no expert really.

With regards to SJARs, what you write is REALLY important, more important than the scores you give people. If you say something about your subject, back it up with EVIDENCE and EXAMPLES!
