help!

does anyone have the rough guide to how the new system refers to the old, just got my 1st SJAR as a Cpl, got B-'s, B's, a few B+'s and an A-!!! I think that's good, but don't say kiss-bum, cos I ain't, i've just been working my back end off!

Thanks in advance for clarity/abuse!

It's a new system, it doesn't cross refer exactly to the old.

The little glossy booklet that came out a good little while ago is well worth reading.

unfortunately on leave and then det, so can't get to said publication! If any scribblies out there could shed some light, it would be much appreciated! Thanks anyway Nec!

I hate to say it but NAT is right. The performance grades you got sound good to me (A's shouldn't be handed out willy-nilly, and that was closely monitored for a while) but what matters is the narrative, particularly the one for potential.

Thanks TBJ, shall endeavour to get a copy of the "SJAR Bible" and give it a thorough good bloomin read while i'm away in the sand!

P.s A- was for for Phys bit!

An overall OPG of B is the average. Forget about the prom rec it's irrelevant, just make sure the narrative accurately and more importantly, specifically details what you have done to warrant the promrec and the grades awarded.

slightly surprised by that bit of advice tommo, I agree that while the narrative is the most important bit, the 1 and (even more) the 2 ranks up recommendations are an important part of the report. I would say the least relevant bit is the individual attributes A - D grades

As mentioned earlier, the Individual Attributes on a JPA Appraisal do not compare to those on the old F6000. Not even the Prom Recs can be compared between the two systems. Prom Rec is important, despite previous comments. The Prom Rec determines whether you are an A/B or a C Grade candidate on the Prom Board before any narratives have been read and can also boost a candidate from a C Grade to an A/B Grade when lacking in seniority. The important bits are the narratives, they must back up that Prom Rec, giving evidence and examples.

Individual Attributes will give the Prom Board an overview of how you have performed over the reporting period. They will quickly be able to see where your areas of strengths and weaknesses are. They will also be looking for evidence within the narratives to support these grades.

The JPA Appraisal Booklet is available on Airspace. Log in, click on ‘Personnel’ at the top, ‘A1 Specialist Support’ on the left, ‘Appraisals’ on the left and then ‘JPA Appraisal Booklet’.

Chumpzilla,

Who wrote that for you? talk about being over assessed. You been 'punking' the short hairy fella again? Its the only way that those scores could be justified.

I was under the impression that the pre-board score and the quota determined your grade on the board. I agree about the prom rec being more im portant if you have less than full seniority.

The Quota (when applied) only differenciates between A and B Grade candidates. I grouped these two together in my statement.

The Prom Rec determines whether you are an A/B or a C Grade candidate on the Prom Board....also boost a candidate from a C Grade to an A/B Grade when lacking in seniority.

I'm more confused now. Are you saying that the prom rec determines what pre-board grade you are, and that your pre-board score is irrelevant?

lol...The Prom Rec determines if you are an A/B Grade or a C Grade candidate. Then the Quota is applied to separate the A and B Grade candidates, which is applied against the pre-board score.

Well you learn something new every day. I thought a number of factors determined your Pre-Board Grade, including seniority, pre-board score and prom rec. Your current personal knowledge of Manning 22 clearly means your advice is much more up to date than mine.

I was showing how important the Prom Rec is...yes, seniority will also determine if you are going to be an A/B or a C Grade, as I mentioned earlier, and the Prom Rec will override it if it is a High or Exceptional for 2 Ranks Up.

Therefore, Prom Rec is Important.

Sjar

The single most important thing about writing an SJAR, is to have loads of examples of what the subject has done. So if you are the subject then keep a record of your achievements, be it at work or play, because with the best will in the world your Sgt is gonna struggle to remember everything if he has 10+ SJARs to write. If you are the senior, then you must make SAJRs the most important task you ever do at work, I have spent many many hours writing 6000s & SJARs at home because in my opinion it is a seniors most important task. In the main the write-up is what gets you promoted and moving around does you good. If you arrive at a new section & work hard, then you SHOULD get a good report. You would also like to think that an individual with 6 different 1st ROs in as many years has undoubtedly proved he is good.

You cheeky bu99er! I don't 'Punk' anyone! It's a clever use of smoke, mirrors, credit card and copious amounts of John Smiths which has given me a good standing for the future! With the way that the guy sups ale, i'll be looking forward to my Op bonus making a slight dent in my credit card bill!
