hope this question aint too stupid, but given that rumour has it that the forces dont issues pjs (not that i wear them anyway!!!), nothing is mentioned re sleepwear in kit lists whats the norm for the Lads during basic training. would u get the **** taken out of u for sleeping in a t shirt???? or is it more manly to sleep in the buff or just boxers and no shirt??? aint lived away from home before so coming from the privacy of my own room is goinna be a culture shock

And I thought I was nervous about Basic Training when I joined!
Shorts and t-shirt seemed to be the norm. But I joined in the summer (a particularly good one too!) so it was hot in the evenings. We never actually used our bedding, as doing so would have meant re-assembling the 'bed-pack' in the morning!
Not that you'll have to worry about bed-packs anyway. You've got it so easy now compared to my day! I sound really old now don't I? But things have changed a lot since 1997 believe it or not.

Has your intake date been changed by the way? They've re-structered the intakes, and 9 of our guys had their dates put back by a month (or more) today.

SLEEP!

Sleep? I admire your optimism.

Just be yourself and sleep (if you get the chance) in whatever you're comfortable with.

Unless what you are comfortable with is French knickers and a camisole. Then it might be worth you considering the RN.

When I went through basic, we had a girl re-flighted to us in the last 2 weeks. She seemed to be under the impression that not only was it ok to sleep as nature intended (though for some reason used to keep her PJ's good for walking to the SPAR in, as you do) but once actually came and sat at the bottom of my bed for a chat like this. With legs akimbo she sat so that her top half was face on to me, thank christ she had the decency to point her m*ff in t'other direction.

I was so mortified I could only nod or mumble throughout the conversation and was stuck in that 'do I just look her square in the eye and pretend everythin's normal or keep looking at the floor' dilema. For the rest of training I had to make sure that that bit of the blanket didn't accidentally migrate up to the head of the bed. :raf:

Sorry, the point of my little anecdote was that whatever you wear should be fine as long as you wear something :PDT_Xtremez_15:

i can honestly say that no one cares what you wear to sleep in - you'll find that everyone is different and you get some people that don't bother with anything other wear hoody's and jeans (and don't ever wash them as with one smelly person in my room!)

don't worry about it - some lads showered in swimming shorts when we started!!!

Well, this would be my personal preferance. But if you have a Tk Max near you, pop in and go to the nightwear section you get some pretty damn comfy 'Jammie bottoms' if you like. They range in price from about 8-15 quid.

Thats what i plan on taking with me when i go down :)

Good luck :PDT_Xtremez_40:

Do not pay any attention to that little gem of info, I spent 3 years at RTS and could normally tell when dirty gits were not sleeping between 2 sheets! Believe me you do not what to be lying on some on the mattresses without some protection. (there are other ways around folding but will let you figure that out for yourself).

Oh - wear what you want, can't go wrong with a pair of jersey shorts. Good luck and enjoy Halton.:PDT_Xtremez_30:
