Slow Computer ?virus-help

I'd be grateful for any help.
My comp started playing up, going slow etc. When I go into a search engine, yahoo, google etc and click on a link it takes me somewhere else that has nothing to do with my search, occasionally porn, not good as I have children.
I bought a 360* norton all in 1 security, ran it but no change. I have the popup blocker turned on, however still get them. I have loads of spare capacity on the comp and have defragged. I have done all the house keeping I can think of but to no avail...any ideas?

Sounds like an unwanted plug-in has attached itself to your browser. Try a spyware checker/remover like Adaware which is pretty good at detecting and ditching this sort of cr@p. I think Adaware is still a freebie.

Google Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. Both are free programs that will help with your problem, you've 99% certain downloaded spyware which is making your computer slow and directing you to dodgy sites.

AVG is another anti virus product, before I splashed the cash on a new computer with free anti virus package I used to run the freebies Spybot, Adaware & AVG and had no probsDT_Xtremez_19:

If you have Yahoo toolbar loaded, run its anti-spyware. Last week it caught a redirector trojan that was totally missed by norton, and then by AVG

Hijack This is a handy little progam to have too.

When you run it, it scans your system and lists everything that is running and what it is associated with. It is a lot more mandraulic that the other programs and, as it depends on the user to identify the threat from a list, you can break things very easily. But it was the only way to get rid of a nasty little re-directing jobby the other week.

Looking at the readme files, it does a lot more too, but I don't understand any of it so I've left it alone!

Fecking toolbars::/: These days, half the sofware I dowload tries to give me a toolbarDT_Xtremez_25: If I want a toolbar (which I bloody don't) I will download one.
