Hi,

Long story v. short - My application seems to be taking a while! I started my application early this year..

I have passed the apptitude and interview stage and now stumbling at the medical section. I'm fit and healthy however I've been deemed temp' unfit, the problem has now been cleared up (I had a suspected murmur) and I'm awaiting my medical forms to be signed off. It's only been 3 weeks since my medical but I get the impression that it's going to be next year before I get my dates...

The problem is that I'm worried ill lose intrest! I have been keeping fit for the last 6 months, keeping up to date with affairs etc etc but in the back of my mind I can sense some doubt creaping in. I've been trying to avoid getting tied down with commitments and long term plans, even my holiday for next year!

Guess I'm just having a moan, but would like to know if anyone had a similar situation? Just need to remain motivated and remember the reasons why I want in!

Thanks

What do you really really want?

What do you really really want?

Bodseh,

Personally I find it hard remembering that far back (for me), however I had a "hiccup" in my paperwork. The only thing that kept me going for it was a comment from (an even older bloke) in the mob......"sh1t happens and you better be able to accept it!"

How true those words have become over the past xx years.

What you need to accept NOW (before you sign the line) is that commitments, short and long term plans will not be under YOUR control totally as the RAF says where and what you do. After all, they are the ones paying your wages and by signing on you accept these facts. The number of kids birthdays, family gatherings etc (some planned months in advance) that I have missed are innumerable. Saying that though, I still would not have traded this job for another. I have been worldwide, met fantastic people and have a camaraderie second to none with colleagues.

Your last paragraph summed it up. Everybody will have doubts and whinges at times that is only human nature. You want it hard enough.....crack on.

it took almost a year for me to get my dates, and i was perfectly fit and healthy when i joined up (well as it turns out i wasn't, but thats another story). If you want a military life you'll find this sort of things happens all the time. We call it "Hurry, Hurry... WAIT"

Just chill, but if your really worried, give the AFCO a ring (but don't do it too often or they might get a little peeved)

Cheers for the responces.

Digzster: Your right, Sh1t does happen, and deep down I know I'm prepared to wait... But thats a good saying, one I hope I can live by.

shoutingwind: I've heard that saying before 'Hurry up & be patient' was the version I heard... I have been onto my AFCO they know I'm eager to get this sorted.

- Maybe it's a small blessing, I get the rest of the summer to do whatever I want, see out this year and start 2010 with a bang hopefully! Gives me more time to get my knowledge upto scratch too!

Thanks again!

Back in August 1980 all the RAF required was my O level results.
I telephoned them in, they got their confirmation and then gave me my date, March 1981. So 7 months, and a total of 14 months from my initial application. It was worth waiting for though. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

It is definetely a long wait. I have completed everything upto my fitness now and my trade requires a specialist assessment. However the earliest I can expect that is november im told (thats when I find out if im in or not)! So for the next 4 months + ive got nothing to do except wait, get fit and revise for it!

That will be why

That will be why

ICT Specialist.

Bodseh, I am aware (shall we say) of that particular trade. There are things going on at this time with it (no pun intended). Hopefully, this will all settle down soon for a while until the next change comes along.

Just remember, be patient and Sh1t happens. Hope you get your date soon.
