The short answer is no. QRs state all SNCOs are to be Mess Members; I would suggest the easiest option (as I did a couple of tours ago) is to apply for Mess Membership at the nearest RAF Unit. That will allow you to relinquish your current membership.

Not sure if that is true fella. Tthe Unit I was on came under Colt. When that closed we were told that we came under Marham, we subsequently objected due to distance and the lack of support we would receive being an satalite Unit. So for the last 3 years of my career I never paid a Mess Bill

However if you are actually based at a unit with a mess then surely you have to pay a bill.

I am sure that Staxton Wold have a situation as you describe above, they used to be part of Driffield but I think they have their own unit "mess" fund to pay for functions.

Yep, get busted to Cpl, no more of those nasty Mess bills.:PDT_Xtremez_19:

The first thing that I would do is write to the CMC of the Mess that you want to join (QRs state that you have to be a member of a Mess) outlining your reasons for wanting to join the Mess that he presides over.

Once you are a member of that alternative Mess, then you need enter into negotiations with your current establishment. Remember, the Army also have traditions as well as QRs which they abide by, for example, they may be at such and such a place, but a Parachute Regiment SNCO will always pay into his Regimental Mess as well. You may be able to use this to your advantage if you are at an Army camp on which the SNCO Mess is also a Regimental Mess by stating that you are not a member of the Regiment, nor attached to it, etc.

Good luck anyway.

There was a WO in Epi that resigned from the mess. He was asked to go for a chat with the Air Com to explain himself. This he did and he resigned.
