Off on a 2 day course next week and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for drinking etc in Wells, Somerset.

We are staying in the Swan Hotel (anyone know how posh/expensive it is ?)

Crack on....................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Looks very posh according to their wesite! If you move your mouse over the picture to the left, it pans round the big green opposite the hotel, nice catherdral view!

Small but quaint Hotel in the middle of Wells near the Cathedral so plenty of chances for a viewing TM!! Been over 26 years since I lived in the area but nothing special. If you get the chance go into Bristol or Bath for a better night out but if you just want local pubs with OK beer Wells should be fine.

Damn !!!!

Looks like the sort of place that jeans and t-shirt just won't do.....oh well I know that if i dressed up I'd be the only one out of our lot that did, so Wells is getting invaded by some slobs next week...........I apologise in advance for all we get up to !

Anyone with first hand knowledge of the area for a night out ?........we will have a few "Foreigners" with us and want to show them the best of British !
Cheers HS looks like a "quite" night in Wells then :PDT_Xtremez_19:

P.S. Will be taking camera as the Cathedral looks fantastic

It is.
I suggest you are careful with the rough cider. What the local don't tell you is that they often have it "lemon top" (a drop of lemonade in it). Only local idiots (and ignorant visitors) drink it rough. The smooth, clear cider comes from round there and it is superb.

don't forget your knee pads Tashy. You'll be on yer knee praying for ages if you visit the cathedral and want "your" sins wiping clean:PDT_Xtremez_17:

Tashy just watch Hot Fuzz and you'll get your bearings:PDT_Xtremez_31: - apparently it was filmed in Wells!

Funny you should say that.....got told the hotel were staying at features in the film......so when we were out yesterday I bought the film as have never got around to watching it......will watch tomorrow morning before I leave.

Cheers all................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Agree with Vim. So did you enjoy your stay?

It was OK.....pity that we had to do the course really as all the days were fantastic and very warm, while we were stuck in a classroom.....oh well.

The pubs were friendly and not like some towns you go in where everyone stops talking and stares.

Only probs were the fecking tourists !! Canadians and americans littered the place.....mainly from a christian, free love type group who we actually got talking to on our last night. They had been to stonehange that day and were feeling the "energy".......they even performed a "healing" (or excorcism as we called it) with some dowsing rods........they didn't seem to mind that we were taking the p1ss out of them !!

The piccies were taken just before I left at 6am as that was the only time i wasn't learning, sleeping or drinking !

Crack on Wells.................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Ah, the ancient gate house hotel,

I was put in the room above the arch when down on a meeting, you can see the windows in Tashy's pic 3. One helluva view of the cathedral in the morning! Was well chuffed as it had a 4 poster bed AND you had to climb a worn stone spirally staircase to get to it (not good after a few cheeky sherberts though).

Then I found out that the hotel down the road had showers with directional jet thingies:PDT_Xtremez_34: . One day, I shall have directional showery jet thingies, come the revolution...oh yes::P:
