Apparently they're sorry...

The head of the contractor responsible for 'horrendous' maintenance standards at MoD family homes has apologised for 'failing' the families of Britain's armed forces.

Richard Lumby, the Managing Director of Carillion Defence and Security, admitted his company had "dropped a big clanger" and put a large number of service personnel and their families though "significant discomfort" over the last 18 months.

Anyone living in a sh1thole?

Begs the question, who is your landlord and who should take the flak for employing cheap companies. Luckily we left qtrs at the begining of this shambles however, when I was in Cyprus on det, the wife had a problem with the heating, she called out work services who sent a bloke nearly 2 hours away to sort it. By the time she had boiled the kettle , he was done and ready to drive the 2 hours back home. Then again looking at some pictures last year when this came to light many of the Qtrs were Army and looked like many of the issues were made worse by the way they were looked after by the tenants.

I know before I left on det there was an investigation being carried out on orders from the Stn Cdr at Lossie due to Carrilion Ameys re-valuation of quarters. You would have 3 quarters on the same street, all exactly the same house being graded at 3 different levels.

Whilst the quarter I live in is of a good standard (especially when compared to some of the Army ones you regularly see in the newspapers), it is the quality of care and maintenance since Carrilion Amey took over that leaves a great deal to be desired.

Reorted faults are not fixed by the first workman to visit you-they seem to be there to "assess" what is actually wrong: even on minor faults where you have described what is wrong over the phone, they wont bring any spares, spares are ordered at this point meaning another visit. This itself means waiting longer and having to arrange to be there (a pain when both people in the house work full time).

Everything is fixed in the cheapest possible way-often only fixing the symptom and not the cause: Front come off a kitchen drawer because the runners are jammed-screw the front on with huge nails but dont replace the runners which still dont work.

There is no follow up on work done, no-one comes and checks repairs, not even a quick survey through the mail.

The standard of upkeep of the married patch itself has fallen drastically as well, during the summer the frequency of grass cutting has dropped along with the areas actually maintained ( some areas are terribly over grown, including kids play areas) and in the winter months leaves are swept/collected, blocking drains and making roads dangerous.

Its easy to see what corners are being cut now there is a profit margin at stake...

I'd just like a shower of some kind fitted to my quarter at Brize, surely that can't be too much to ask for? Apparently it is.

Meanwhile other quarters at Brize have had new cladding on the outside, new double glazing and a shed put in the garden.

Just put my appeal in for the new grading of my FMQ at Brize apparently mold, excessive condensation tiny radiators that don't heat up because the pumps not good enough, insufficient thermal cladding and rotting doors on the shed and garage (just for starters) are acceptable and justify an increase in rent.

Its all arse

Its all part of the plan to force the majority out of SFA and force you to buy your own houses...

Let me know how that goes, you just described my house.

Regarding the mould, heating & ventilation etc, is it time to get the Environmental Health people involved?

Can you put in a service complaint about a quarter?

It isnt just the qtrs where living standards are unacceptable. A while back I recall returning to the block at about 21:00hrs after a weekend at home to find all 3 toilets were blocked to the point of overflowing.

Called the guardroom to call work services, they send an MPGS bloke to double check that I wasnt a silly female who just couldn't quite understand the concept of modern plumbing, he then confirms that yes..... all three toilets are blocked.

He then calls Orderly Officer, who then advises that the contractor be called and the contractor is provided with my mobile number as a PoC.

The contractor then calls me and advises that the only person they have on call is an electrician. She then also advises that it is unlikely that someone would be out that evening and if she were me she would just use a bucket for the night.

My reply to her is much to strong for some of your delicate ears.

I believe we must be on the same patch as i am near the ones with the new cladding and new sheds.

Oh and I have just had my assessment back and despite all these issues and more my property is good enough for the higher grade and so for my mold infested dump i will be paying the same rent as those in the brand new FMQ's on camp. Get ready for appeal part 2.

Annoyed
