A friend asked me today if I knew anything about sound mirrors to which my answer was very little.
These were apparently the forerunners to RADAR using dishes to focus sound waves to detect aircraft before they were seen. They did work to a point with slow moving aircraft but were rendered redundant with the advent of RADAR.
