Space command new boss

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
So with a promotion to Air vice Marshall he becomes the new boss of Space command. Apparently Space Command will be a Joint Command based at RAF High Wycombe and staffed by personnel from all three services......... Space operations, space workforce generation and space capability will be brought together under a single 2-Star military commander. He has done his research though

"Really looking forward to the job .................currently binge-watching Space Force on Netflix for ideas...'"

Will he wear a Growbag or a space suit for work at High Wycombe.
As we don't have any manned space craft on inventory (that I know of) I can see no reason for him to wear anything other than blues for day to day work tasks unless of course he's simply posing.

I once attended a briefing in Air Command when a pilot turned up in the room from Waddo.

He drove from Waddo to HW - in a flying suit.

1. They are really comfy
2. They have lots of pockets for things like smokes, passes, your hat, marbles and other vital stuff, meaning no day-sac required
3. We spend a fortune on hilarious name badges like 'Mike Oxlong' which don't read themselves in the bottom of a wardrobe
4. Chicks dig them...instant sex appeal
5. Read 4.

Really nice guy. Pleased for him. Very likely to be a CAS in the next 4-6 years, and probably by aged 55.

Flying Suits ~ Clearly identifies who is aircrew and who isn't. No different than SAC Tech rank slides which identify the technician trades. I suspect flying suits will not needed in HWY / Air Command unless in a flying role, where they are handy for Pockets, Knee boards etc. The exception to this could be hosting other nations aircrew, where flying suits will be all-round.

Not a shiney? Most Aircrew have more education before they joined that you had when you left. Take the hint.
Firstly, no they don’t, Secondlythe Airforce would prefer it if they didn’t spend three years of their youth in University doing a degree and thirdly once you get to this level formal education is no longer an indicator of performance and potential.

If the Airforce really was a diverse organisation, opportunity for all and all that, then it really should have had a senior leader in a general leadership role that doesn’t have a brevet on their chest.

My comment wasn’t aimed at the individual, nor the branch, it was a comment on the organisation.

The RAF will be run by either Aircrew (Pilot / WSOp) or an Engineer (Aero Systems); the company is all about delivering Air Power, Global-reach etc. Perhaps someone who has experience in Fast Jet Operations (4th / 5th Gen), and a bit of Space & Cyber capability too.

We had a 2 or 3 star brief that an Eng Officer who is a Flt Lt today could be a future CAS if they buy into Astra...

On the subject of Astra... ‘Aviator’ anyone?

I agree. There's a good argument for leaders versed in airpower and its delivery to ascend to the highest echelons of the RAF. I would say credibility in big ops with and without partner nations demands it. However, space power is distinct, relatively new and a sun-rise capability across UK GOV. I think the first incumbent in that role should've been from a branch closer aligned to exploiting space.

An organisation that doesn't allow the best to thrive and grow with be limited in its thinking, probably why Tempest rather than Raptor is the future.
