Sparrows to get new aircraft

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
The Red Arrows aerobatic team will get new planes, Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon has confirmed.

The announcement comes as RAF stations in Lincolnshire celebrate their 100th anniversary.

There has been some uncertainty in recent years whether the team based at RAF Scampton would be retained.

Sir Michael said the team's current Hawk jets need to be replaced and a decision will be made over the next couple of years.

My bet is some kind of UAV or more likely some new Hawk T2s.

So what type are we looking at here? newer version of the Hawk or possibility early model Typhoon.

I suspect it will be either a Hawk T2 or the new Beeccraft T6C.... doubtful (despite all of its airshow experience) that they would give them Phoons.

Given that the Typhoon needs to lower the undercarriage in order to perform certain manoeuvres (fools the FCS) it'd look a bit stupid all nine of them performing a Hammerhead Break with dunlops dangling ;).

A kick in the slats for British industry would be to use the Alpha Jets currently at Boscombe.

A better bet would be to use some stripped out Hawk 128s paid for by the MoD and BAe.

Thats no loss as the RAF dont own that anyway, a guy from Melton Mobray bought the rights to the Diamond 9 logo in the 1970's, the REDS have to pay him royalties whenever its used.
The point I'm making is......9. It just "is", ever since the 60s. There was enough public outcry the year Leuchars airshow was cancelled so given that the sparrows are all about PR I can't imagine there not being 9 aircraft used in displays because that's what's expected.

Or keep the existing airframes going for a couple of years until the winner of the US T-X competition is announced, then shoehorn BAE in as a subcontractor and buy a load to replace the Hawk...

So the reds need replacements jets........ it all becomes clear
This is the real reason why the Cosford Jet Provosts are being removed from the training system.:PDT_Xtremez_30:
