What traditions do supply have these days ?

The requirement of playing christmas music constantly used to be one I remember at McKinloss. Along with dressing each section up as a grotto (e.g. Santa was the Snec's office. SAC's elves and the Cpl was Mrs Clause (gender unimportant).

I think in many areas Santa was adopted as patron saint of Supply. I even recall one Cpl (slightly odd chap) insisting on wrapping up collects as presents and having Engineers sat on his knee for a photo when they arrived in R&D on nights.

Anyway, I digress. Are there many left these days or have most of them disappeared into the mists of time ?

Drinking at our desks on a Friday afternoon at 3pm. Bet it doesn't happen now!!

Ops forgot to mention that the brew was beer or wine and then down to the bar.

I used to love going for POL section drinks in the Pigs Bar at Abingdon every Friday lunchtime. Enforced by SNCO.

Try to bulk bowsers on the BFI in the afternoon...drunk was emotional!

Happy days!

All jumping in the RVT (Hawson) in uniform and piling down to the Black Bull in Welton until 1500, them back to work!

And blagged his way into ESG at Waddo, bamboozled the duty stacker into giving him the last serviceable sextant, that was required for the UK Bombing Comp and legging it back to Scampton with it.

All done without the benefit of a 658 or a Waddo security tag. Legend

More likely to be one of Jock Moirs

Correct!

This man was a legend......

Young (but big) WRAF Fg Off wandering around ESG looking as to how she can improve things.
After a few hours she gathers the FS and Jock in the middle of the floor and proceeds (with all her experience) to tell them how we are going to "Bring ESG into the 80's". Once she has finished with the blah, blah, blah, she says to Jock "What do youthink then Sgt Moir" to which he replies "I think yer talkin' oot 'o yer cnut ma'am!" Vast intakes of breath as she says "what did you say?" To which Jock, very smoothly, syas "I dinna think yev got that quite right ma'am". Cue lots of SAC's disappearing, giggling into the racks.

He also enjoyed showing my missus his willie, because she was a nurse!

Ah yes, she who's name was the complete opposite of her size and was well into space cadets (allegedly). It was no wonder that her Rover 2000 was a bit lop-sided.

Your missus wasn't the only one who he proudly showed his asset to. JM fell foul of a rather large chiefy one night when he entertained said chiefy's wife in his room in the Mess whilst aforementioned chiefy was playing snooker down stairs. After the chief had smashed JM's room door down, JM tried to convince the aggrieved hubby that it was all a mis-understanding and nothing improper was going on... all this whilst both JM and the wife were starkers!! We couldn't stop laughing as JM described, in his own inimitable and colourful way, the events leading up to how his room door came off its hinges as the chiefy dispensed with the normal knock-before-entering courtesies.

When he went to the bog, he would take his teeth out and put them in his pint. Until one night he came back and his glass was empty and his teeth were gone! He got them back a week later inthe mail, in the meanwhile he couldn't eat anything crunchy or hard!

He could also sweep a row of 10p pieces off a table with his willie!

Despite what some may call personal failings he knew the job inside out and the world is a much grimmer place without him.

Certainly made me laugh on many an occasion.

Got to agree with you there. I also saw the serious side of JM when one of the young SACs topped himself and JM took the Flt Cdr (an obnoxious little cretin if ever there was one - he was more concerned with his garage at the officers mess than this young man) to task over his lack of support and guidance for the young man who was in some trouble. JM marched(ok, he stormed) into OC Supply's office and said words to the effect "If yae dinna move this little tw@t, yae 'll hev another funeral to deal with".. emotions were running very high at the time. JM displayed the kind of leadership that was so sadly lacking from the sqn hierarchy at the time. JM with personal failings?...certainly not on that occasion.

That was just after I left, but we all heard about it, the grapevine being what it was. He also nearly broke his own son's arm one night 'cos he raised his hand to Mrs Stax! When you made a friend of Jock you made a friend for life!
