Evening all. I'm hoping someone out there may be able to help!

I've begun the process of organising a staff ride (1 day, local museum). I haven't as yet done the relevant course, but it's something I wanted to do before I come out the mob.

I'm basically looking for advice on funding, permission to use a MT vehicle which I imagine to be the normal MT paperwork (driver if it's possible) and any hints or tips you can give me to organising a sucessful day out.

Many many cheers in advance!

HI KW,Not sure where you are but your first POC is TDF. A Uk based one day one is straight forward if TDF buy in, they should also fund the Museum, and MT should be ok too. Trick is give yourself time to organise it, and plan 6-8 weeks in advance. If you need any other gen PM me you details.Brian

There are certain guidelines you need to adhere to - speak to TDF bods who will be able to give you all the advice and also copies of some Admin Orders that will be helpful to you. This AO gives you the authority for MT and anything else you require. From what I can remember, TDF budget covers museum entrance fees and that sort of thing with any T&S costs coming from each individuals Budget Holder. However, it's been a while since I did this and things may have changed.....as I say speak to TDF and all the best.- bit slow off the mark in my old age....ah well Good Luck!!

I was a participant in one the other year..

MT Minibus from RAF Base to RAF Uxbridge. A visit of the underground bunker there from WW2 (pretty cool), then an overnight stay on the base in large man rooms.

The next day, free* tube trip into london city centre to visit 2 museums in the day. Entrance was free with the old MOD 90 / 1250. Tube back to uxbridge, another overnight stay and off back up north to RAF Base.

Meals taken in the mess/at own expense. Paid for by TDF

Brilliant. Cheers chaps! I may be in touch. Been in touch with TDF and the FS there wants to sit over a coffee and discuss how the best way to go about it is. Again, thanks for your advice!

AP3379 has a leaflet on staff rides. 24** or 25** series if I recall.

TDF does has a budget but it's currently restricted to museum fees.

Just make sure that you have good questions to ask the participants. Some pre-reading might be of use for them as well.

Top tip with the Admin Order and I know this from personnel experience is to have as much info in it as possible, in the correct DW format of course. It needs to be such so say for example you take ill before the event, someone can pick up your AO and run with it. For maximum participation from the audience I would suggest setting them a good question based on where you are going which not only forces them to do some research, learning along the way but also offer up some good debates on the day.
