I am off to watch Linkin Park with my wife, kids and my 3rd kid Mingmong :)

I am looking at spending a day in London and staying overnight.

So my question is.....

What is the closest Forces hotel to the 02 Arena (Millenium Dome)?

So does that mean that you are paying for your 3rd kid to stay in london and buying all his beer for the evening?

You really should rephrase that you know !! :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Nah, you're the cost of a subway so there's always someone cheaper than me.

The VSC is apparently near Marble Arch and The O2 is North Greenwich on the tube so it depends how long it takes to get from one to the other.

The Union Jack club is close to Waterloo isn't it?
Last time we went to the O2 I got a boat from Waterloo pier to the arena, and back again. I would say it's the best way to get there as there were no queue's for the boat whatsoever, unlike the tube. It costs about a fiver return for the boat which is pretty reasonable, and the pier at O2 where the boat stops is only about 5 minutes walk from the arena.

Travelodge has got some magic deals at the moment. Last time I was in London I stayed in the travelodge in the Docklands, I was at a conference in the Excel centre. Not far on the Docklands Light railway from the dome and not expensive either.

Not close at all as it's North of the river...

If you stay at the VSC although it's better placed next to little Beriut i.e. Edgeware Road and some of the prettier parts of London like Hyde park etc. and also a few stops away from Covent Garden/Traf Square it will take you an average 21 minutes on the Central then Jubilee Lines to get to North Greenwich tube station which services the Dome...

If you stay in the UJ club it's South of the river and will take you as little as 9 mins but on average 15 mins to get to North Greenwich from Waterloo which is right over the road from the hotel...

I've used the VSC and the rooms were a little too much like a block room incl. bed, furniture and bedding but the bar was great and resonably priced...I've not used the UJ for accomodation but have eat and used the bar...The restaurant was good value for money with a reasonably sophisticated menu which they had a good stab at...The bar was standard London priced...The surrounding area is a little shabbier although there are a couple of bars close by...

If all you're going for is the concert then I guess nearer is better...If you're making a couple of days of it then the position of the VSC may be a defining factor...

Hope this helps!

For what its worth, i wouldn't even bother staying at either UJ or VSC. Compared to some prices on lastminute.com or laterooms.com they work out expensive for what they are and can easily find better hotels for same price. Some fantastic hotels very close to docklands that are cheaper than both "military" hotels.

Thanks for your advice. Does the UJ Club have parking for residents?

Ive managed to get us booked in at the Holiday inn about 700 metres from the North Greenwich tube station. Its right next to the dome and cost us £70 all in for a room with a double and a sofabed for the kids. Parking is a fiver for each 24 hours.

I assume your third kid Mingmong is taking a room too.
If thats the case and you are generous enough to let him spend time with your family, why not let your kids have the sofa bed in HIS room so you and Mrs Wobbly can have some quality time consuming "Wobbly":PDT_Xtremez_15: if you get my drift !!Just a thought
