I've got a bmw 328ci (well the wife has) and its got an auto and steptronic gearbox. I've looked through the handbook and can't seem to find the answer.

Question is can I change from manual (steptronic) to auto and back whilst the vehicle is moving, or can it only be done when not moving?

Any help appreciated.

If it's anything like the VW DSG 'box (and any other car with a dual mode 'box), then it can be happily swapped between modes on the move. :PDT_Xtremez_15:

Odie.

Thanks, I'll give it a try, just wasn't sure and didn't want to hear the expesive sound of grating cogs without some advice.

Don't worry, modern gearboxes have electronics to protect the 'box and engine. On these boxes, the gearlever is effectively a switch - if the gearbox doesn't like the selection, it won't do it. :PDT_Xtremez_15:

The Mercs can be moved from one to another M to C or S on the move, but it may not be the same system as the paddles can be used in any mode (when the computer lets you)
