I'm having problems finding information about an ancestor of mine, who was an early member of the RAF. I've tried the National Archives, but they don't seem to have his service records, although they do have his medal card.

Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, in which case gentle redirection via your size nines would be gratefuly received! Details of the man concerned:

Walter Gibson, joined as Pte 110612 in the Duke of Lancaster's Yeomanry, transferred to Manchester Regiment as Pte 245640, then to RAF as Pte (?) 319958.

I really want his address at enlistment/discharge and dob, to confirm that this is the man I think it is.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Thanks for the help gents. I've followed up on some of the suggestions, and it appears that my man may have continued serving into the 1920's, in which case I can't see his servcice records unless I can prove I'm a relative.

As I can't prove I'm a relative without seeing his service records, that's a bit challenging. Ho hum.

I'll let you know if I do find anything. Thanks again.

You might find yourself a bit stuck, During the WW2 the National Archive's was bombed by the boxheads and was raised to the ground taking all the records with it. Some were saved and some were stored else where so it will depend on just how lucky you are.

All the best mate.
