Just after some info if anyone can help.

I am a singlee living in a surplus 3 bedroom MQ and paying £158.10 per month for it. The rest of the guys in the MQs are living in 4 bedroom houses and only paying £115.18 per month. Has anyone lived in a surplus MQ before and is this right?

Thanks.

At a guess, they are paying for what they are entitled to (B Type 2 bed) whereas you are paying for what you are actually occupying (C Type 3 bed).

Thanks guys. Just had a look at JSP464.

0419. Single (and unaccompanied) Service personnel. Single and unaccompanied Service personnel occupying temporarily surplus SFA pay the entitled rate of SFA charge (as recommended by the AFPRB), and SFA CILOCT (abated by 25% for single occupancy).

As i am a singlee with a child who i have school holiday custody of, i would of thought i would be entitled to a 2 bed MQ. There are no 2 bed MQs at my unit so should DIO ops only be charging me at the rate for a 2 bed MQ?

I spoke to DIO Ops and they reckon that my charges are correct as its a surplus quarter, however, it doesn't sound right to me. Yes, i decided to move out of the block but it's not my fault they don't have any 2 bed MQs at my unit. Any help would be appreciated....its a difference of nearly £50 to the old pay packet!

Given that you are not your child's primary carer, you are not entitled to SFA. If you were the primary carer then you would be entitled to SFA.

If you are paying what JSP464 states you should be paying for occupying surplus SFA, then that's the way it is. You must have known that your unit didn't have any 2 bed qtrs, or it certainly should have been explained to you. A3 bed was offered to you so the decision was then yours to make, and you chose to occupy the 3 bed qtr and have been charged accordingly.

If however, you were entitled to occupy SFA and the qtr you were allocated was above your entitlement, then I believe you would only be charged at the rate of your entitlement and not the rate of what you are occupying.

Is this thread for real???

To be fair, I thought his original post was a valid question. His subsequent bleat about it not being his fault that his station didn't have any 2 bed qtrs do sound a little haing cake and eating it; especialy considering he's not obliged to stay in the SFA.

Yes i am not obliged/entitled to stay in MQ, however, i am eligible to occupy surplus quarters if there are voids! I am simply querying why i am paying a substantial amount more than everyone else in quarters and if this is right or not!

What grade of Qtr are you and what grade are the 4 beds? have a look here and that will give you the charges.

Both the 3 bed and 4 bed MQs are Grade 3. I have had a look and from what i can see they are charging me as a Type V Grade C, £5.09 per day. I'm sure this is officers rates though.

I think i should be paying Type C Grade 3 which is £4.10 per day.

I wish i was in your position.

I was told to poke off and not ask again when i requested a quater so my kids could stay with me at weekends (they only live 16 miles away). SSAFA, Padre and chief Clk were told the same thing. Wouldn't have been too bad but i had a quater when i was in Akrotiri so they could stay when they visited..... from Elgin!

Given that I have no idea what the charge for occupying SFA at your unit is, I couldn't possibly comment; but what I will say is that if you're paying the same as an entitled (married accompanied) person occupying SFA the same as yours, then you are being charged accordingly.

Type V is Officer SFA.

Substantial?

You pay less than £160 a month to live in a 3 bed house. Reality check time.

Yes Substantial!! I'm not saying that £160 per month is substantial, im saying that the £50 extra i'm paying every month compared to the rest of the guys in quarters is Substantial!

Were there any surplus quarters at your unit? Have a look at JSP464 Chapter 10 bud.

1001. Provision For Eligible Personnel To Occupy Surplus SFA. In accordance with DIO Ops Accommodation mandate to reduce the number of voids, provision is made for eligible personnel to occupy surplus SFA both inside and outside of the wire. Eligible personnel include the following:
a. Entitled Service personnel who waive their entitlement to SFA at their duty station and seek to occupy temporarily surplus SFA at a location other than their duty station for personal choice reasons.
b. Other non entitled Service personnel and civilians (including civilian personnel in support of the Services, civilian Key Workers and other civilians) who seek to occupy temporarily surplus SFA at a location of their choice.

I have just spoken to housing again. The houses in my street were originally officers quarters and most of them were downgraded a few years ago, except mine, it seems! Hence the reason i am paying more than everyone else. Should be sorted out for next month!

Thanks for your help guys, well those of you that actually did help!!:)
