No, I know there's no chance!
..........now I've got your attention, I found something you old timers might find interesting on another site. It's called Urbexing, (Urban Exploring). They go round old military sites and see what has happened to them. Can be interesting (especially as some are not widely known, and have been left to rot)

The pictures inside the cinema brought back some memories........

Can't say i ever loved the place but sad to see it falling apart.

Crack on..........:PDT_Xtremez_09:

I drive past Swinditz every time I go to the outlaws. I hated every minute that I was there (well, almost every minute!), but I still get a warm feeling in the pit of my stomach every time I go by.

I stumbled across RAF Metheringham a while back after taking one of my famous shortcuts to Lincoln. I didn't even know it existed until I turned to Mrs TBJ and said "this looks like an airfield". :S

Wake up mate - how can you possibly miss Metheringham??:PDT_Xtremez_17:

It's amazing how we all still look back at Swinderby through rose tinted glasses.

I seem to remember that there were some times there that weren't exactly pleasant, although I don't remember anything specific.

Of the 100 or so on my entry I am aware of just one other who is still serving, he works in the same office as me! Other than that I have vague recollections and heady rememberances about cameraderie, teamwork and promising to meet up with people at a later date. Most of whom I can't even recollect there names now.

Great days they were too :)

I was on the last pass out parade of no 3TS. It was even more poignant for me as the day of the pass out parade was my 19th Birthday. I kept it quiet from everyone but what a great way to look back on your past exploits.

I had the honour(?) of going back to Swinders when it was in the process of being shut down, to take some of the mess silver away from the place to the base where I was stationed.

It was sad to see it then, 1993 IIRC.

When I left Swinders in 1991, it was a well kept, tidy, neat and well tended station. in 1993, you could already see the rot setting in. The "buzz" of the place was gone and it was just another statistic of a camp that was closing.

Several years after that, I was dismayed to see what had happened to it. It was delapidated, the two entry gates that were bisected by the road had rubble barriers and it just looked like a ruin.

I believe that the airfield became a Gypsy site and eventually a racetrack for low level motorsport.
