One of the best bands around from the eighties through to the late nineties,

Mark .E. Smith should go down in history as "the British Captain Beefheart"

Kurious Oranj.

Classic.

This is "the man whose head expanded". Definite Joy division refernces and also reminiscent of todays "Bloc Party"

They're still going mate. Saw them a few months ago in Oxford.
Mark E Smith was still fab. He's not supported by the original line up. His girlfriend is on Keys (German I think). The drummer was tremendous, none stop for a full 2 hr set.
I think they must be on about album 25/26 now?

Well worth a view for one of the most influential and entertaining bands around.

...Frank Skinner was there too. He's a big fan apparently...must be a small body, big head thing?

And never forget that Lard, of Mark and Lard fame used to play for the fall too.

I know that they are a very influential band and highly respected in a lot of music circles, but I've always found them very hard to get into, although I've not really listened to them for a very long time. Maybe I will get hold of some of their stuff and give them another try now that my music taste has matured a little.

Top band and always have been! Mark E Smith is a miserable northern cnut! Just like me!

Check out 'Fall Heads Roll' if you are a non believer!

In the words of the great man himself ........

'I'm a 50 year old man. What ya gonna do about it?'

My fav album of theirs is Bend Sinister.

Got to see them at Reading 2 years ago. Mark E is a legend.

I thought the wedding present were John Peels fav band.

In his biography, he states that his favourite single is, Teenage Kicks, The Undertones, but had more records of The Fall than any other and sang their praises regularly.

He also championed the Wedding Present, who stated their influences, amongst others as, The Fall.

I think I should have said, The Fall were 'a' favourite of John Peel, as he never (as far as I'm aware), stated an 'absolute' one.

IIRC, he never really got on with Mark E. Smith on the few occasions they met. Which always seemed odd to me?

Can't say I am entirely happy about the fact that Mark E Smith, the drunken old wank, is pumping the bird on synths........ then again I am only jealous
