The Loss of a Footballing Legend

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
A huge loss to the world of football. Sympathies to his family. A true gentlman and a fighter, having allready beaten cancer at least 4 times previously.

Unfortunately missed seeing Sir Bobby when he was Ipswich Manager - first started watching/supporting them Season '82-'83 just after he'd left.

His legacy lives on in the Town.

A great man who was much loved, respected and will be sadly missed.

RIP Sir Bobby.

Met the great man twice, he always had time to spare for everyone at the Newcastle training ground. The world needs more like him, a true gent !

When I was first able to go to football on my own Bobby Robson was at the helm. he played stylish attractive football which was both pleasing on the eye and delivered a period of unprecedented success for what was essentially a small provincial club. His character and personality shone like a beacon and enabled us to attract players who we had no right to sign, but still they came, such was the presence of the man.

Driving home tonight I listened to glowing tributes from fans of all sides, English, Scottish and beyond. Even the test cricket correspondent had fond memories of spending time with 'Sir Bobby' a devoted follower of Durham cricket, even cyclist Lance Armstrong spoke of the loss of a legend. Former Aussie test batsman Dean Jones has also spoken of Sir Bobby and how he would have approved of Englands performance today.

In this world today 'fame' 'celebrity' and 'greatness' seem to be seen as stepping stones to an easy buck, and are usually applied to the unworthy. Sir Bobby never sought any of these traits, they were an inevitable consequence of the type of man he was. He was the one personality who transcends any club rivalries, and as shown from the tributes even the sport itself.

A legend who will be sorely missed

RIP Sir Bobby ::(:

Sir Bobby

Sir Bobby

All I can say is RIP Sir, I used to love going to Portman Road to go and watch Mariner, Mills, Brazil and the rest of the team when they were in training. A true Gent.

To Sir Bobbys' family, Mine and the rest of my clans sympathy in your loss.

Very well said mate, I would like to echo that sentiment.
I met him when I was a lad visiting my sick brother at the children's ward in Ipswich. Sir Bobby came in with a few players including Mariner and Mills and spent some time talking to the kids and signing autographs. A genuinely nice bunch of fellas.
RIP Sir Bobby, my congratulations to you an a life not wasted and my sympathies to your family on their loss.
