Hello everyone, I am running the Paris Half Marathon on 3rd March 2013, in aid of The Miscarriage Association, and I am looking for some kind hearted people to sponsor me.

A little background on me, up until 18 months ago I couldn't run the length of myself without stopping. Okay a slight exaggeration but struggled to pass my fitness test every year. I don't know why but I thought I would start running to lose a bit of weight (always been a chubster, joined up pre fitness test days) and get fitter, and thought it would last a couple of months at best. I have surprised not only my family and friends but more so myself and continued my running and to date have lost nearly 4 stone, and did 2 half marathons in September, one on base at Ramstein and the other a week later in Saarbrucken, Germany. I only did them to see if I could, and loved it so much I am hooked.

So for my next Half Marathon in Paris, I have decided to do it for charity. I have chosen a charity that is not one of the well known ones but effects a hell of a lot of people, that can do with some support.

If you feel like you can help please visit my Just Giving page at - http://www.justgiving.com/Kenny-Band.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

All the very best of luck to you but do be careful about road running, the jerking can damage the musculo-skeletal system and especially the spine (which is why we don't stamp pongo-style). Muscles in general are larger and stronger than ligaments and tendons. Over-enthusiastic training can lead to serious damage to the joints, leading (as in my case) to runaway osteo-arthritis when older, restricting mobility and leading to obesity. This is especially so in people who rely on vigorous exercise to lose weight. It's not generally realised that arthritis, once acquired, is progressive - it can be managed but not cured. A doctor recently told me that her fittest patients are the ones she has to send for knee replacement surgery at 50. I'm sure the Arthritis Association would be grateful for any contributions.

Flybynight, thanks for that, maybe I will look at the Arthritis Association for my next one. Obviously before I hit 50 :0

Due to being posted early from Germany, I will not be able to compete in the Paris Half Marathon in aid of my chosen charity.

As I am posted to Lossie, I have signed up to do the Inverness Half Marathon on 17 March 13 instead.

The good thing about the change of location is there will be less of a stink of Garlic to contend with.

Thanks to all that have sponsored me so far.
