RAF Riggers do it best, 'cos without our Airframes you juz got Junk! Sorry guys, soapbox away.... Snigger.
Served 17 & a half years as A Rigger, 1977-1994. Halton, Lyneham (Role Equip/White team), Wildenrath (19 Sqn), Odiham (Role Equip/33Sqn), Laarbruch (Wheel Bay), Halton 2, Lyneham (Blue Team), Gutersloh (PCSF), and finally Brize Norton (216 Sqn). Always a Flash and we don't mention Berlin! Anyone thinks they know me then drop a line. Name dropper... Lyneham, (Bob Lippett, Rick Symes), Wildenrath, (Ron Curly, Titch Field, Duggy Urquart, Tim Gavain, Wendy Bracken, Rusty Selwyn), Odiham, (Ohhh... Blank Brain... Worry), Laarbruch, (Brain Hurts...Again), Lyneham... I better stop here... this hurts!! I will repost some more soon.:PDT_Xtremez_15:

You are quite correct. There are chocolate Riggers, (TG1 variety), and there are real Riggers, namely the trade you all wished you had joined, Aerial Erectors!

Here's to many more years for this friendly argument.

I was neither variety of rigger as I done reasonably well at school but you are correct. Real riggers scrambled around aeriel masts whilst getting zapped with invisible wiggly amps.

I believe aeroplanes requiring rigging were invented and well developed before the need for aerials of any kind...

Flash, we may have clashed at Odiham - dates please?

Flying controls require Rigging aerials require erecting so you are erectors surely?

Anyway the True Riggers would have to be the old Navy type who did Ships rigging and with HMS Victory still on charge I reckon they'd win.

Not quite Max. For HF systems the Rigging is required before the erecting! I would agree that the old Navy types would take the honour if they still existed. Sadly they do not and only RAF Aerial Erectors maintain anything akin to the skills associated with them, knots, splicing, roving of block and tackle etc.

As I said earlier, I am in no way after an inter trade argument. You do your rigging and we do ours. Honours even I'd say.

This is an introduction thread, if the discussion regarding the origins of "Rigger" is to continue, it might be better in the appropriate area. Oh yeah, welcome to the goat Flash.
