I was on Illustrious with the Harriers when it docked in Liverpool for the weekend in 2008 - it was incredibly popular with the locals then and it seems nothing has changed.

There's nothing more satisfying then going into town and either watch the cruise ships or naval ships come into the cruise terminal, watching them leave or just going to see them. One of the most memorable days was when Cunard's three queen's where all together. Watching them come in and manoeuvre to get get in line was impressive.

I guess there is some sort of safety procedure in place to stop the crews from using the front door when parked like this?

Waiting for the ship to leave yesterday, there was this loud roar and a f35 came flying up the Mersey from Bootle. I missed getting photos. Then a few minutes later it came back and I missed it again.

According to the Liverpool echo, it's conducting sea trial before making its way back to Pompey.
