Can anyone tell me the gen or where to look for information regarding time off including flight entitlement to view SSFA in the UK from overseas? I cannot find it in the JSP760!

Thanks.

You will find the regulation concerning the duty travel element in JSP 752 chapter 4 para 04.0109. Basically you are entitled to one return trip to your new unit to arrange your accommodation, and cn be accompanied by your immediate family. Overarching policy allows for the use of air travel if the most economic method. I can't find any regulation on time off but as it is duty your boss should be able to give you reasonable time; a good guide is that you are able to claim up to 4 nights subsistence - for you only - to come back and view/arrange SSFA (Chapter 3 para 03.0161). Hope you find this useful

Thanks JPABitch for that info, very useful.

Just looking at all that from a selfish point of view ie mine. It doesnt state that you can have a flight at pulic expense to do so.

You can claim Motor mileage from leave address or SPR but that is all.

Sir Salty

Not quite right, for the initial visit you can use Air travel if it is the most economical route(para 04.0101) you will only be restricted to MMA when you are on your intertour leave(para 04.0109)

But it doesn't say a person overseas can have an initial (prelimarary) visit, it intimates that you have to do it on inter-assignement leave.

So if you are allocated a FMQ you are entitled to go and preview it??? I only ask because I was told yesterday that I have finally been allocated a quarter and my march in date is about a week after my posting date. I rang them today to ask if I can go and view it (as you are allowed to not accept the first 2 aren't you and there may be problems with it) only to be told that I can go and see it from the outside but I wont be able to go and view it inside until the march in date????

You can't se inside SFA until the march in, it's just one of those rules designed to make it more difficult to reject a Quarter. The reason you can view SSFA is to ensure it really is up to standard because they are chosen by an estate agent. A friend of mine was shown one by them that was actually just a bedsit with a sliding door that blocked the bed from the kitchen sink pretty much. If you don't get pick one before you turn up for your first day at work then the RAF will usually have to put you in a hotel until you get a flat. When considering whether to give you flights your admin staff will probably weigh the cost of a week in hotels over a return journey.
