Well I've finally done it! 2 failed applications for redundancy (my services were just too valuable apparently!), the introduction of JPA and the fact that after some fool promoted me I only have to do 2 years in the rank to get more money finally tipped the scales. Could this be the most exciting time of my life? or is life in civvy street not all it's cracked up to be. Please discuss!

By the time I leave I will have done 24 and a bit years and have loved every minute of it. Even though in recent years us old'uns have seen many changes that don't sit well with the values a succession of DIs, hairy a***d cpls, gimmers and scary WOs have, in times gone by, beaten into us. Its nice to see that the cyberspace crewroom that is the Goat is making every effort to make us feel that not all hope is lost.

As a parting gift the mob has kindly funded what I hope has been a successful foray into higher education for an Honours degree at Kingston. Those of you who know the course will know who I am so if you are in the mood send as much hammer as you like. Now I know why university is normally reserved for the kids...they recover from the hangovers alot quicker than us gimmers!

Is that a universal problem? or am I the only one who takes 3 days to recover from something that I used to spend all week doing. If they ever send me to the Falklands again, and anyone from PMA who might read this can go f**k 'emselves if they think they are going to, I will have to take out some good life/medical insurance if only to pay for the copious amounts of "Resolve".

Don't know what I fancy doing when my time attached to the great apron strings that are the RAF is over. The wife is pretty much set on moving to NZ being as she is a nurse and has put her career on hold since meeting this old fart in the Commie one night 7 years ago. 2 kids and a crippling mortgage later and I reckon its time to enjoy some real quality of life. We might even be able to both work part time...she can do the mornings and I'll do the afternoons!! If anyone tells her that I'll kill 'em!

Anyway, say "hi" if you know me, knew me or would like to lend me money! If I owe you money p**s off!

Cheers m'dears!!

Welcome to the real world and remember, the goat is not just for Xmas.

You will find your BSc(Hons), coupled with your experience and skills will open a lot of doors for you.

rigger468,

I fully agree with Soon To Leave and Bitburger.....and, most emphatically, with Phil O'Sophical.

Get you're MSc - and Do It!

The move to NZ for us was probably the best thing we have done, excellent quality of life.

As Phil O'Sophical says, listen to your wife!!

Good luck in whatever path you choose to take.
