Now the USA wants our speed record 10 years after Andy Green got it in the SSC - with little cash the enterprising american team took the wing off an F104 Starfighter and put some wheels on and are trying to make an attempt today
Good luck guys see here - (have we got a couple of spare Typhoons we could stick together to get it back?)

Without being too picky, that's surely the fuselage not the wing?!? :PDT_Xtremez_35:

Good luck to em mind. Says they've done test runs at 600MPH, still have a way to go to break the record currently held!

I think he had a spolling error and missed an 'f' off of!

Mind you they didn't call the Starfighter the 'Flying Coffin' for nothing.

from the thread title I was expecting a thread about University Air Squadrons and the (ridiculously expensive - for students) cars they drive around camp.

ho hum...

Hang on I’ve had a real good thought, one of the problems with the SSC was the frontal Cross Sectional Area presented a drag problem the F 104 has a small CSA because its a single engine tube with the pilot out front - yeah?

WELL - WE need a twin engine with a small CSA - right? WE need one of these...

All you do is whip the wings off, keep the wheels, and yer off...(into the next darwin awards probably)...however we could incorporate it into the next goat Pi55up... right now lets find a suitable venue, and mug for a driver:PDT_Xtremez_35:

Off Topic Could you say what UAS it is?

Probably Daddy's Money!!!!

Who reckons it'll end up flipping as it approaches the sound barrier? Because that's what I've been told by a few pilots (including one or two ex-RAF pilots).

Yeah its a typo from being up all night on gate guard:PDT_Xtremez_37:

Any way it looks as if Steve Fosset was suposed to be driving it - SEE HERE

This on looks a little more futuristic and you never know might just do it!!

I can't quite understand what the NAE team is now doing. It seems that they had several runs but aren't saying how well it went and are doing an awful lot of touring. Mebbe they failed miserably?
