In what now a trend another recently retired member of the top brass is saying the force are to small, all front end and no support.

"In a memo before he retired in April as head of Joint Forces Command, Gen Sir Richard Barrons said key capabilities had been stripped out to save money.......Whitehall was "preserving the shop window" with items like aircraft carriers......Capability that is foundational to all major armed forces has been withered by design..........Neither the UK homeland nor a deployed force could be protected from a concerted Russian air effort."

It's a pity these people don't think they can say the same things when they are in Office, without retribution.

Exactly my thoughts! The man backed the last defence review - it is a shame he never raised his head above the parapet and made his thoughts known when he was in a position to influence.

Is this a case of sour grapes for not landing CDS or is he giving media sound bites in order to heighten his profile and future CEO etc prospects?

We are still 'policing the world' but are fast becoming toothless tigers:

Not sure if having this sort of thing highlighted in the media could be seen as 'useful' on a CV... it's basically telling future employers that this person is a yes man, who will let your company sink so long as you're still paying him megabucks.

I'd have more respect for the bloke if he left the Army BECAUSE he put his neck on the block to tell the painful truth (although this 'leaked' report is called out as sour grapes, it's actually quite correct. Just poor timing).

I'm reading over on AARSE that this guy did in fact used to speak up - maybe that's why he didn't get CDS!
