Hi all,

Quick question as I can't find a definitive answer.

I've been asked to be an usher at a friend's wedding. I've been asked if I'll wear my No 1s. Can I just wear the number 1s or am I required (by some sort of publication) to wear the accompanying ceremonial gear like all the whites, sword, etc?

Cheers!

I am presuming from the swords bit at the end you are an orrificer? I am only going on previous experience but you need to Gen App to the SWO (it's normally always a yes unless there are overriding issues i.e security) and if you are in the wedding party then you will be in Number ones instead of number 4's/5's (rank depending) white webbing and medals worn.

You need approval from your CO if you're an officer as it's him and his station you'll be representing (SWO takes responsibility for NCOs I believe).

As for the sword bit, you'll need to notify the local police if you intend to wear it in a public place, because even though it's a ceremonial sword, it's blade is larger than can be carried in public (3.5 inches). Even then, you may find you have to surrender it to them or the local armoury for 'safe keeping' before any alcohol can be consumed...
