Hi

Although I have a posting I have now been asked if I wanna stay put when my unit closes down (closure team or something akin) and I said I would (as my family were staying put anyway)

Nothing has been decided but would it be best to change my choices to RAF No Move or leave as is?

I would leave it as it is as 'no move' is not really intended for such situations where a move is inevitable. You will want your choices to be registered for when your drawdown/closure duties finish, and the longer you have been on the list for a unit, the better chance you have of getting it (allegedly).

Also, if you have a choice, it should always be registered as you won't just be plucked and posted; but the CM will move you when chance meets opportunity.

Type that into the comments box as well to explain the situation.
It then highlights why youve chosen no move.

The unit should also have a manpower drawdown plot which will list everyone on the unit and the date after which they can be posted. This should be send to the Manning Sqn WOs/Sqn Cdrs so it can be filtered to the relevant drafters. Worked very well at one of my previous units.

Yeah was wondering about how it actually worked. I guess once on it tho you would be tied to it (the release date), so if a decent job (commutable distance from where i am) came up that i fancied I couldn't go for it - or would that be down to being released by your boss?

cheers

There's always changes to the drawdown plot & in my experience Manning were happy to receive changes if it meant someone getting the posting they desired. Often a job would come up and someone from the drawdown team would negotiate with unit personnel and manning to be replaced on the team to allow them to take up the posting.

If Manning buy in properly, appreciating that peoples' lives are being messed around with enough due to the closure, then they should be receptive to drawdown changes and the unit manipulating the list to better suit individuals. Hope you have a good Chf Clk to negotiate with drafters and act as the liaison between line mgrs, the drawdown manager and Manning.

Thanks for all the info, very much appreciated. Regards.

If you're round the Rutland area, manning won't speak to us yet.

It's mad really, when for eg TG1 are supposedly at near enough max manning. You'd like to think you could go anywhere you asked for within reason. Especially when the station is supporting our get out quickly ambitions.

More waiting methinks.

I was drafting when a couple of Units were closed and it was vital to have a single point of contact for all manning issues - it prevented personnel trying to do deals without the knowledge of the drawdown team. The drawdown team should get a plan as soon as possible, pass it to ACOS Manning, and keep in regular contact. The plan will, by necessity, be a living document and subject to change in an effort to meet the needs of the individual, the closing Unit and the Service as a whole.

There isnt a Drawdown Team here yet, despite me repeatedly asking to be seconded to it! It also seems that some people are digging their own escape tunnels. It is quite disappointing to see the "my own career" individuals adopting this attitude when their subordinates cant.

But you can't blame them, it seems no one else is coordinating it as you rightly said.

It's everyone fend for themselves at the moment.

I don't think it's down to the individuals. It just seems easier for commissioned officers because of the way their desks operate.
