Morning all, can anyone point me in the direction of the rules and regs for Unpleasant Working Allowance?

Much obliged.

The decision as to wether or not it will be paid in your theatre is currently sat with the ACC. Good luck fighting that if he decides against it. The problem stems from the fact that the JSP is not specific as to wehat quantifies UW conditions.

Cheers for the reply DS...

I've been speaking with the medic, and apparently it can now be signed off by a line manager...

I just need an AP Ref to get things moving...

It will be in the allowances JSP, whatever number that is....

The Regs you seek are in JSP752 Chapter 10 Section 1.

From the version linked from the RAF Community website:

The aim of Unpleasant Work Allowance (UWA) is to compensate Service personnel for operating in conditions involving an exceptional degree of discomfort or fatigue, or exposure to noxious substance beyond that compensated for
by the X-factor. Similarly, it is paid for the wide range of activities that Service personnel may be expected to undertake which fall outside their normal range of military duties and are considered to be of an objectionable, or harrowing, nature.

Note that the linked document from the RAF Community Website is Dii Ver 14.1 whereas the Intranet version is DII Ver 15.3 and should, therefore, be used as the authorative document.

Unfortunately the medic who provided 'specialist' advice on UWA was incorrect; flt cdrs cannot authorise UWA. As a previous poster pointed out, for OOA locations UWA is approved by the ACC. Requests for certain positions/jobs to attract payment of UWA will be staffed to the ACC. If approved, it will be approved for a 12 month period. Then, for 12 months the individual(s) can submit claims which must be approved for payment by their SO2 - minimum rank. These are the new and updated regs which changed summer last year whilst I was in Candybar

The reason we we're looking into claiming UWA was for working in an ISO container, where the temperature regularly tops 50oC during the time we're in there...

The ambient temp is currently in the mid 30s, so we would be eligible for UWA, but unfortunately we don't meet the criteria for how long we're actually in there during a typical shift...

Mate if you get any issues check out the health and safety at work act and start thinking about human factor....chuck in a MEMS that should get the ball rolling and you might well find that things will change

::P:

Have a word with yourself. Look what other people are doing in Th & Man Up! If all you are worried about is getting a little hot under the cuff in your Iso, let me swap jobs with you. Comments like this is what gives the RAF a bad reputation!!!

How about you have a word with yourself. Is working in a contained space in excess of 40 degrees C with no aircon not "man enough"? That is precisely what UWA was designed for. So he may not be trugding through the fields searching for IED's or in a PB on stag big woop. It's comments like yours, your first post I may add, that give E-Goat a bad name.

I believe the one post wonder above is what is known as a troll post and more likely a member too scared to post under their own name :-)
