Just a thought.

The following football teams are owned by Americans

Manchester United - alledgedly re - mortgaged to the hilt by the US owners- Interest payments on the borrowed $1.17 billion totaled about $167 million from May 2005 to June 2006 Also own Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Arsenal - significant stake owned by a US Businessman Also co- owner St. Louis Rams

Aston Villa - Owned by an American Also owns Cleveland Browns

Tottenham Hotspur - Owner recently lost $1.6 billion in US bank crash

Liverpool - Owned by American Business partners finaced by Bank of Scotland yearly intrest payment $40 (on top of normal paymments) Also own Texas Rangers baseball club

Newcastle United - Owner Mike Ashley reported to have lost £129 million last week in the US markets

Given the amount of money spent on these clubs by these American owners and the reported shaky US market which has seen banks calling in high mortgages could we see the soon ending of the money no object Premiership clubs

If these Businessmen start to feel the pinch could we see some clubs being dumped onto the market or managers being told there is no more money in the pot?

Now I know they have literally shed loads of money but if there is a market crash they could as already proved by two of them lose hundreds of millions in a day

Football clubs are afterall money pits Liverpool are reported to lose money and apart from Mancheste Utd could the others survive on gate receipts and shirt sales?

Could it be the end of players wages and the premiership as we know it

Sorry chaps my bad that bit I cut and paste from an article I read in the paper about Liverpool

Mike Asley is indeed a Brit well spotted why did I have him down as a Yank?
I'm off to wobble my head

Arsenal's main shareholder is a Russian closely follwed by a Brit; haven't heard of the yank!

The American sports tycoon Stan Kroenke, via the UK arm of Kroenke Sports Enterprises, currently owns or controls 7,584 shares or 12.2% of the club, the bulk of which he bought from Granada Ventures (a subsidiary of ITV plc) in April 2007. The largest single stake in the club held by a non-board member is held by the firm Red & White Securities, which is co-owned by Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov and London-based financier Farhad Moshiri. An initial 14.6% was bought in August 2007 from former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein, who is now chairman of Red & White Securities and (as of February 2008) stands at 24%. Both purchases have led to press speculation of an imminent takeover bid for the club.

Sorry I stand corrected I have heard of Kroenke but didn't tie him into the St Louis Rams although I know he owns Colarado Rapids the MLS side and he's sort of drifted off the scene since Usmanov came in. There is though a lock-down agreement between Arsenal's Directors and other main shareholders in which they agree not to sell their shares to 'unknown' persons before Apr 09 and they must give other board members first refusal on the shares up to 2012. I've no doubt that it will happen one day but for the time being Arsenal remain firmly a British owned club and when Usmanov finally takes over I hope that David Dein becomes the Chairman as he will no doubt retain the services of Mr Wenger.
