Hello! I am an ex-forces child who did a lot of her growing up in Cyprus when my Dad was posted to Episkopi and then Akrotiri. I am now all grown up and have kiddies of my own, and we will be returning to Cyprus next week for a two week holiday. For all you lucky people stationed there at the moment we wondered if you would let us know of any decent restaurants that you would recommend. The forces bods always knew the best place to get a good kebab/meze that the tourists never knew about! We used to go to the Kyrenia beach restaurant (for an amazing moussaka), the Rendez-Vous (for a great meze and the best Kokinelli) and Aravanas or Mahmouts (for a decent kebeb). Are they still good? What others would you recommend in the Limassol area? Came across E-goat by sticking Kokinelli into Google?!

LOL thats the best one yet , came across Egoat by typing in coconelli hehehehhe

Welcome Nissi

Its been about 2 years since I have been on the tour of Cyprus , cant mind much of names only really of nightclubs. There was a nice messi place next to the Akki Arms that does the full messi with coconelli :)

cant really help much but its ok not wander around and just try a few places that look decent, only trouble I ever got there was late at night and the Turks or cypriots would go bonkers in the street late on :/

Wheres the Akki Arms then? Is that on the strip outside of RAF Akrotiri? Sounds like you had a fun tour of Cyprus anyway with the nightclubs! I was a bit young when I lived there to go clubbing so missed that side of Cypriot entertainment!

Chris's Blue Beach at Kourium (or however you spell it
) is good after a day on the beach. Good fish menu plus the usual kebabs etc and usually full of locals which is always a good sign. Watch out for the locals ordering food in their speedos though!:PDT_Xtremez_31:

Is that the middle one? If so it's the best out of the three....lovely octopus there about 2 weeks ago.

There was a darned good place on the junction at Ypsonas, did fish meze, steaks, the lot.

Used to love Arivanas in Limassol for a good Meze too, think it was till there back 2003.

Oh yeah, and one on the Old Port roundabout, again in Limassol.

Damn thats depressing, thinking about all that lovely food after a day at the beach. Keo, kokinnelli, kebabs, sun, windsurfing, sun, waterskiing, sun...etc etc

There was a recent thread on here that covered it, try searching cyprus.

There are loads of good restaurants out there more so if you avoid the over priced tourist ones.

The strips (just outside Akrotiri) fine with a great italian.

I left in 2003, Arivanas was still okay (nice steak and meze), Mahmouts had gone down hill, there were quite a few nice restaurants in Limasos old town but names have escaped me as the effects of Kokkinelli have kicked in.

Enjoy your hol.

To Nissi,

If you are in Limassol, then I can only recommend one place.

Little Plates restaurant. or locally known as Ta Piatakia.

Awesome beyond belief.

Have to agree there. Arivanas was fantastic. Don't think anyone has ever left that place feeling hungry!!

Blue Island - On the Larnaca end of the strip across from the San Rafael hotel. Absolutely fantastic place, populated by the locals also.
Olivias on the Aki strip is also nice, run by the lady who used to run the 'Perfect Pizza'.
Was there only two weeks ago
