OK so here's my dilemma, I recently completed a college course that got me 2 level 3 VRQ qualification which is equivalent to a A level, which leads me to this; Do a levels supersede the need for 5 GCSE's and are VRQ's even recognised by the RAF

Obviously I still need them in English and maths but that's OK and not a problem the problem is I only got the big three GCSE's (science maths and English) but I have two qualifications that are equivalent to A levels.

Thanks for any help in advance

Educational requirements change on a regular basis, your best bet is to google RAF Careers and call the phone number on there for this type of question. There are people who work in AFCOs on this forum who may be able to answer you but you can get an instant answer from the Careers Service if you contact them direct.

thank you very much, ill do that now n let u know how it goes (like you care lol) but seriously thanks:PDT_Xtremez_14:

ok so i phoned the careers office and they are not to sure, i also phoned my local AFCO and they also dont know because so if there is anyone on here who can help then great but also i just found out that they increased the GCSE requirements for officers upto a B in maths talk about a kick in the balls:PDT_Xtremez_25:

It would help if you gave some idea of what trades or jobs you are hoping to be considered for. Bear in mind the academics are just the bare minimum that you would need and what ever job you want they are more interested in you and what you do with your life and if you would fit into the strange and twisted little world that we live in.

Educational equivilencies can be clarified by an AFCO sending copies of certificates and a breakdown of course content to I of R at RAFC Cranwell. The specialist staffs there will make the definitive decision.

Unless things have changed drastically since I was in the recruiting world then any vocational qualifiaction (which colleges advertise as being the equivalent of A levels) tend not to be accepted in lieu due to the lack of academic course content (i.e the course is predomoinantly a practical one).

If you are hoping to apply for a commision, you may wish to consider brushing up your use of the English language otherwise you will struggle to get through the selection process. As a start with some basics (although your post does need to be restructured):

Good luck with your application for Gunner.

Don't give up on your desire to earn a commission. You can work for the qaulifications you need while your in. Many have been commissioned from the ranks - indeed the current Commandant General of the RAF Regiment used to be an SAC Gunner on 1 Sqn RAF Regt.

thank you climebear for the words of encouragement you have defiantly inspired me even more anyway im closing this thread as i believe this is about as much info im gunna get without digging deeper. but cheers:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Gruff

Don't worry about it. If you don't ask any questions you'll never find out the information.

The only stupid questions are the ones that don't get asked.

Oh apart from:

What is an occasional table when it's not a table?

What happens to your lap when you stand up?

Good luck
