The last airworthy Vulcan bomber will fly for the final time next year, the trust which funds the aircraft has confirmed.

The XH558 has been based at South Yorkshire's Robin Hood Airport since March 2011 after the RAF Lyneham base closure was announced.

It has been decided that "challenging modifications" to both wings would not be sustainable to the old aircraft.

The Vulcan to the Sky Trust said it decided not to fund the repairs.

Oops, there you go..............!

So not a roundabout way of asking for the cash then.......
That's a fekkin good idea - turn it into a Roundabout - it's got to be cheaper than trying to get the CAA to sign another permit to fly or C of A

One last flight with a WE177 on board. Then have it hijacked by a rogue pilot, crash it into the sea and let it settle to the seabed. Kill all the crew and take the weapon to a secret undersea lair, then hold the world to ransom for a million dollars - which can then be used to repair the wings.

Great shame but it was always going to be just a matter of time before it got grounded. I agree with R78, the lack of engines right from the onset was always going to be a problem and blowing two up with desiccant did not help. I wonder if they would let me buy it for my diorama?

Yes, but that was with two Atomic Bombs, MoS Type, and number two was asking for £100 million. Mate of mine was at the Station where the footage of the Vulcans was filmed for Thunderball, He told me that the Producors of the film, did ask the RAF if they could use one of the just grounded Valiants and do the ditching footage with a real aircraft. RAF said no!!!

The image that you published somewhat disturbs me. Is that a lecky trying to fist a dog on the pan (look closely all)?

The lecky was a police dog handler the first time I saw it! Capt slogs' has done a re-paint since then I reckon. The pan lights have gone but the taxi way is your real actual genuine wet 'n' dry and the grass is scotch bright. The ground equpiment took hours to find on flea bay. In the words of Max Boyce "I was there"

The VTTS mob have always tugged at the heart strings of the gullible. It was a nice idea to keep one flying but the costs are simply to great, especially after the recent engine whoops at Finningley. No engines left, no money left, realism time people, it's end ex.
