I have had the pleasure of going to supply sqns for the last 3 weeks giving the new vital training. The parts of the country that I have given most training to is central england and wales. ALL of these were contracted supply sqns. I have come to realise, probably too late, that all the **** that gets directed at us stackers here is probably warranted if these civvies are anything to go by.
They just don't care for the customer and just get the hump when you point out that they need to change. 'Its always been that way mate so why change it', was a common reply. 'You need to adopt this because what you are doing is wrong'[through gritted teeth]. If only I could have used unpc language.
I therefore must apologise to anyone I have ****ed off in the past. I will still defend the wonders of TG18. However if the rant is civvie orientated i'll come and join you!
Cosford, nice camp. Passed the picket line and thought I wouldn't have to teach anyone, more fool me. Wolverhampton on a night stop....oo-er, don't stay out too late after dark. But that proved pretty difficult when it was only £1.60 a pint (hurrah). I have now experienced culture and can only compare it to Port Talbot or Ellesmere Port.

And also get shirty if you happen to tell them that they arent doing the job like a real RAF stacker............
A proper stacker who can do his/her job is worth a lot in this airforce in these times. Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of rubbish civvies, and not just stackers!

They've always been that way.
There were civvy stackers at Swinderby when I was there in '73.

They speak to you like something thats you've trodden in, on the pavement.

oh we have a great one, a two foot tall irish dwarf he's alright but not very up on computers, and when fancy messages come up saying cant do this, speak to so and so, he er dont. hence why we dont get our bits plus when we are doing noisey funcs he just walks in. i have had the plesure of working with several good stackers, mainly waafs who have bent over backwards (boom boom tish) to help in anyway possible. i just wish there was more like it.

Hi guys,

Sorry for intruding on a trade forum that isn't mine, but.........

The civvies at 138 EAW seem to have grasped the idea that they aren't paying for the stuff we request from them and as such are always there to help. Not neccesarily with a smile, more quick witted rapport but if its within there ability to provide something they will.

Just had to stand up for them.

I'm now going to go shower and see if I can remove this very dirty feeling.

And speaking as a Chief Stacker, I can vouch for the fact that most of those Civvies are ex RAF anyway. Own Goal, oh mighty Vital Teacher.

Yep, i'd second that. Far too helpful to be real Stackers :PDT_Xtremez_15:

What a pair of socks mate, be at my office 1600hrs and I'll give you free tour racks. I,ve always been helpful but shortages down to IPT's and crap DLO, it's going to get worse as Army run it now.

I get fed up of being told that ''back in their day'' they worked for a living and pride. The reply ''well you're certainly enjoying any lost out time now aren't you'' doesn't tend to go down well.
It isnt biast to an ex-RAF civvy or other but then again how many service personnel have you worked with in the past who have similar laid-back mentalities ?
It tends to wind me up when a civillian contractor from another company tries to pull rank on you
e.g.

''I'm the Senior technical hand of certain aerospace authorities, youre just an SAC''

Sorry to disappoint you gillo, but out of the Civvie contractors I taught at Valley,Sealand (DARA & 90 SU), Shawbury, Cosford, Innsworth, Henlow, St Athan (RAF & DARA), 3 people were ex RAF stackers, they did possess a brain cell or two. No own goals in my book, just sub standard contractors, ie serco and sodexo and the like, not employing the right personnel. I never berate the trade, as those that know me will testify.

The proof of the pudding is next week, we visit Cott, Wadd and Con. I'll bet my last AAA that the standard of blue suits is far higher.

I,ve had to sit and watch the trade go down the tubes for many a year following short term planning by sacking blue jobs. Surprised you only met 3 ex RAF stackers though. I personnally know that Valley, Shawbury and Henlow are being run by my ex peer group. They must have been ashamed to have admitted it.

Best of luck rolling out 'Vital'. Good news some youngsters getting picked up, just hope some of old and bold stick around to keep trade going in right direction.

Hi,

Just an opinion from an ex RAF techy.

During my time in the mob, I had dealings with Civvy stackers who ranged from the dullest dullard ever, through to the guys and girls who could pull rabbits out of none existent hats.

As for the RAF stackers, I had dealings with the dullest dullard ever, through to the guys and girls who could pull lions, tigers and bears out of a none existent hat.

Now I am in the airline industry, I find that "Total" support works very well. The supply chain is an integral part of the aircraft maintenance process, something that the RAF will never achieve because RAF supply is too big, it has too many functions to carry out and cannot concetrate on just supplying aircraft spares. Squadron stackers are the nearest to Total support the RAF will ever get, but they are on the extreme edge of a large system.

Of the civvy stackers who I have worked with over the last few years, the best ones are ex RAF. Once they know you have served in the RAF too, they work wonders.

Best regards.

TW

I'm sure Waddo didn't dissapoint! Even Police Chief Wiggum passed the test!

Just lost the last blue suit in Clothing Stores here at Leuz and is now like Fort Knox.Dont get me wrong I work with some great civvies in Tech Stores (not all ex-RAF) but Im sorry to say most civvie suppliers are almost an embarrassment to this once fine trade. TG18 RIP

DNR/DNN.......Discuss: So enlighten us on how your visits went to Cot, Wad & Con, where they better/worse?

After 3 weeks at civvie run supply sqn's and DSDC's, DRDC's, it was like a breath of fresh air. To hear the sound of aircraft, having to stop the lesson while the noise died down, it was quite emotional.

I enjoyed the whole experience, mashed in the walkabout in Lincoln springs to mind. However, from a professional point of view, the stacker sqn,s in the lincoln area where top notch in comparison to others. It confirmed to the army captain that was with me that the RAF aren't all bad! If the training is given correctly, then we can provide a first class service to out oil stained bretheren. It was a bit concerning that I quite liked the look of Con. Is that a bad thing? Maybe somewhere to move onto in the future.

Overall, after my World Domination tour, the best camp still has to be Hereford. I got all misty eyed going round the place. The town is still tops for a drink too. Most disappointing, Aldergrove. Good that the ceasefire (sic) has made things for the better, but the camp is tired and not half as fun as I remember it.

IP + PP + PPP + MP = CT heaven/hell (you decide)

DNR/DNN.......Discuss:

So Waddingtons AAR Civilians were ok or did you not have anything to do with them during your visit, I also get the impression that you found the RAF personnel ok.

I only ask to see what your opinion was of them compared with your comments about other civvie run supplies on other RAF bases.

I was also interested to see if it differs from the oil stained bretherens point of view of the same supply system both RAF and civvie at Waddington.
