Evening Goaters,
Quick synopis of the story so far:
Applied for Weapons Tech, blitzed the AST, got pushed through of Aircrew so starting mentalling gearing up to go for Loadie.
Made a right royal foul up with some life choices & effectively binned myself from the OASC & any future attempts at HMForces, or so I thought.....
Skip forward 21yrs, applied to 606Sqn as Rgt Gunner, failed PJFT in Jan this year (due to,ironically, overtraining).
Due to events outside my control, the re-test was slow in materialising, so I transfered application to 501Sqn.
Successfully completed the process, all sworn in now, got my kit, due my second training weekend soon, bloody loving it already, wish I hadn't waited so long to investigate the RAuxAF route...but thats another story.

So.....whats new with you?
 
If you'd got it right first time, you would be just about to retire on a full pension. Better late than never though. Welcome. :PDT_Xtremez_14:
 
When I went for my medical,I heard from the MO that changes were afoot, so I asked the WO what was occuring ( great rumour control!). As far as I can work out its just Sqn number change, I'm not sure I got a handle on it all at the time but I think it's reverting back to 2624......or I could be talking a load of old guff! I stand to be corrected-obviously!

Either way, I hope for your sake that all of your efforts aren't wasted.
 
At the risk of being overly optermistic, but they wouldn't go through the whole process to recruit 11 new bods from an intial 60 applicants, & get us all lined up for RTS at the end of Nov, only to bin us shortly after......surely?

My first post might have come across more negative than I meant it to, so I'm terrified to give an honest answer to that question....


But I hear the current duty rumour is that the Sqn will re-name rather than disband. I hope so - as the 501 Bar and Rugby club were the only two places at Bzn we could have Armourer beercalls. Everywhere else used to get all precious about grown men kissing and weeing on the floor....


You realise it all went wrong after you changed your mind from being a plumber and went aircrew - definite signs of having ideas above your station. (I speak from experience - doing exactly the same thing myself was where my "career" went off track....)


So anyway - welcome to the Goat :)

501 Sqn isn't disbanding. It's supposed to be re-rolling to become an 'Airport of Embarkation' squadron, whatever one of those is (although that plan is aparently all up in the air again at the moment).

The personel who currently make up 501 Sqn RAuxAF, being Gunners and those needed to support them, will become 2624 Sqn RAuxAF Regiment (again).

Oh what a weekend!

Had a mare of a weekend when it came to footdrill, seemed to have grown a 3rd uncoordinated leg, to go with the other 2 that I have! Why, after 40 plus years of walking normally have I developed the inability to march?!
